Yes, it is leaking from the front (pool side) to the trough side. The whole top is tile. It was not waterproofed on top... only the trough side was painted. JustaPB, what is the right way? I will post pics later today. Thanks.

just-a-pb...thanks for clarifying. Makes sense now, on a bigger pool, say greater than 60K gallons, a second filter makes sense to help with the dirt load and turnovers with low speed pumps. There's just not enough hours in the day to turnover larger pools with low flow rates to save energy. For our modest 40K pool, I only need to run the circulation pump at low speed for about 18 hours during the swim season to take care of turnovers and filtering...no need for a second filter and pump. Our negative edge pump only runs for a couple hours per day during the weekdays and off-season and 5-10 hours per day during the swim season and weekends when we tend to swim for longer periods. I should have clarified my post also regarding returning diry water to the pool...this only happens for as long as it takes to carry the water held in the basin to the main pool...after that it's carrying clean and chlorinated water to the pool. Using your logic...one could also argue for a chlorine generator on the negative edge pump in addition to a filter to prevent dirty, unsanitized water from being returned to the pool....just my perspective for what it's worth. For larger pools, I agree with a second filter and pump to save energy during low speed circulating and filtering. If you have a negative edge pool, it makes perfect sense to put that filter on the negative edge circuit. I would also say that for larger pools, the placement of a secondary chlorine generator may also be needed and placing it on the negative edge circuit would also make sense. For smaller pools with a negative edge, like mine, the need for a second filter is not necessary and placing one on the negative edge circuit is overkill in my opinion. I can see the argument either way though.

Hi banana! The Infinity Edge has a suction pipe in the bottom that draws the water out and into the pool. At that point, the water runs through the pool filter. It would need to be manually skimmed, though, for the stuff that may float on top. That's really not a big deal, although it may depend on how much debris you get in it from existing trees, etc. We don't have any large trees that shed around the trough, so it has remained very clean (well, at least for the whole two days we've had it! lol). When you're swimming in the pool, you can't see into the trough - unless you swim right up to the edge, pull yourself up and look down into the trough. I'm not sure if one could be added to an existing pool. The structure was all tied in together when we built it. The steel, the plumbing and the foundation were all done at the same time. To add it in would probably require tearing down and rebuilding the wall on the side where you want the Infinity edge. This is just a guess, though. The cost? Hmmm, that would probably vary widely between builders. Our whole pool cost was about 80,000.00, but that was before our PB left us high and dry. We hope to recover the additional money it cost us to finish it. The other big factor for cost is how long you want the Infinity Edge to be. I guess the usual length is about 12' (I didn't know that until recently). I designed ours to have 45' of negative edge - guess that explains the looks on the PB's faces when I gave them the drawing for our initial estimates!! I just thought, "Hey - if they're going to build a pool wall ANYWAY, let's just have it disappear over the edge :)." Keep an eye on that cleaning head on the entry step that ended up way out by the nose. That is a lot of plaster or pebble if they plan to float it with just the interior surface material. That head should have been a couple inches in. Looks very cool! Crazy how high out of the ground it looks now. Compaction compaction compaction on that sub base!
