Rich running should not make it run hot. We now have to consider a plethora of exotic conditions. If you release the bail slowly until the ignition cuts off, but without engaging the engine brake, does it seem to stop suddenly or does it coast to a stop over 3 or 4 seconds? I'm wondering if the piston/cylinder are scored. Did you buy it new or have sure knowledge that it was never run out of oil or have the wrong oil in it? Like already said, advanced timing will run it hot. I wonder if the clogged air filter would run one hot because the cooling intake air is restricted?

Yes on 4ton. This dealer did the load calc, others did not. I am going to have another walk through to be sure everything is covered. I do have hot/cool spot issues in the house. Kids bedrooms get PLENTY cool while our master is the warmest room in the house. Were are adding on our sun porch to the system as well. All of this has been discussed, but I feel like I want to revisit all of it again to be sure. Yes there is one central return and 1" disposable filters. One contractor had proposed doing a filter cabinet at the airhandler that would take 4" or 5" filters. I really liked the sound of that. On sizing and duct work. Current outside unit is 3 ton and all contactors feel like it was too small for the house. I know on the hottest days here, it would run for long periods of time and if we turned the air and came home in the afternoon/evening and wanted to drop the temp more than 5*, it would run for at least an hour, maybe two before it would cut off. We have metal ductwork throughout. No one seems concerned about the ductwork being a problem and I have asked a couple directly. Whoever does the job will be dropping a new supply and return on the porch and probably a return in the master BR. Porch is 240sf with windows on two sides. I being told to allow a minimum of .5ton for that room alone. Ross

tiger, the AHRI Certified # is 3895138, so its is a tested system. With everything I've found, people either hate or love ADP coils. I think your in the hate side, right? lol Mike, getting back to the dip switch's, the install book says the control board will not recognize any changes to dip switchs unless the power has been removed/turn off breaker or unplug the unit. When they came back out they turned the switch SE2-4 on to make it run at 50% of 2nd. I've read the manuals front to back and the system should recognize the need for 2nd stage cooling without turning SW2-4 on (The book says to turn on SW2-4 if theres a 2 compressor system, since I have a scroll compressor could this be considered as 2 compressors?)ANYONE WANT TO COMMENT? I wonder if its worth a try to unplug the unit and change SW2-4 BACK to off (like it was originally) and power it back on?

I'm still waiting for a response from the Contractor, who has been sick the last few days, and I am still pushing for the HW Vision Pro IAQ Stat to be installed. Another question. I am thinking about going with the Air Handler with Heat Strips as the backup system to the Heatpump, instead of having the Gas Furnace. The main reasons for going with the Air Handler and Heat Strips is because the Effeciency ratings are actually higher for the Heatpumps with this configuration, and according to the Contractor the Air Handler and Heat Strips are less complex and should have fewer problems. My question is two fold. 1 - Do you agree with that statement and do you think going with the Air Handler and Heat Strips over the Gas Furnace is a good idea? 2 - Any feedback on what we can expect for the Heat that the Heat Strips put out, vs what we would have with the Gas Furnace? My wife is not thrilled with the so called "Heat" from our existing Heatpump, but that should be better with these new Heatpumps. But she Loves the Warmth of the Gas Furnace when that kicks in, and she wants to make sure that we aren't giving that up by going with Heat Strips vs the Gas Furnace. So any additional advice and input would be greatly appreciated since we have no experience with Air Handlers and Heat Strips as a backup heat source. Thanks!
