Decking to match my cedar house

My house was built about 12 years ago and at that time I had a back deck built with Trex. I have since put in a pool and want to expand the deck. The color Trex I originally used is no longer available. While I have no real complaints about it, it definitely gets hot in the summer, and we lay down some ugly indoor/outdoor carpet so people can walk from the door to the pool without shoes. So, I am considering other decking options.

I'd love to go with one of the tropical hardwoods, like Ipe, but I'm getting mixed messages about staining. I do not want the deck to turn silver since my house is a natural cedar color with green trim, and the pool patio is a brownish/red stamped concrete which compliments the natural wood color beautifully.

The house is stained with Sikkens Log and Siding preservative, and after 4 years still looks great! If I went with one of these hardwoods, what would I use to preserve the natural wood color, and how often would I need to reapply?

I hear you. We just had a fence put in, and I want to stain it. A medium dark brown, without too much red, but not gray looking... I've got 5 quarts and three sample size stains, and so far nothing is exactly right.

yes. I like the warm wood tones. the gray sample doesn't really go w/your siding color (at least in the picture) . Post an overall look of the house and where the decking is going. BTW, we did one in this gray (it wasn't Trex, but a similar brand) and edged it w/natural redwood. (we had the redwood previously but it was attacked by termites, hence the composite stuff). I'm also painting the house in creams, blacks, grays this summer when we get the new roof. So this overhang will prob be charcoal or black color.

I like the look of clear coated cedar but only if it's cohesive with the rest of the design. IOW, if the lower columns had also been unpainted cedar, I'd say go that route. However, since they are already painted, I'd paint the ones above, too, leaving the ceiling as the only clear coated wood visible. Not a designer but just my two cents :)
