Does any one have any experience with?
Comments (3)Well, I went with a solid brick raised terrace rather than piered decking so there wouldn't be a drainage problem against the house foundation. I suppose the latticing you plan can be backed by screening but if they're determined, they'll hang their nests under your deck stairs. Houses have landscaping and lights that attract bugs and spiders which are handy food for wasp larva. The bug bomb under the deck sounds like the easiest solution. On the deck at my other house I had the guys install a collar of two boards wide, parallel to the foundation and attached with easy to remove screws. This way, when it's time for termite treatments it is easy to get that treatment right there at the foundation in an area that seems always moist and shaded..a termite favorite....See MoreAluminum (railing) to PT deck contact
Comments (2)Outside mount. Two bolts pass thru side of each post and thru outside of stringers. Rail mount on posts. This results in side of post touching stringer for full overlap. Full Step area is clear with rail just outside stringer. No trip hazard as would be the case if surface mount thru step....See MoreAluminum Decking
Comments (3)I'd forget about that aluminum decking as I don't know of any company making it anymore. AWDS gave me a display deck made out of aluminum & I put it down at my fish camp on the Texas coast. Seems to hold up well in that enviroment, but does get slick when wet. Don't believe the stories about ipe, it would work fine there. For a composite check out ameradeck @ www.ameradeck.com, they have some distributors in Ca. Comments (15)I would think looking at the u-values of the frame styles does not suffice. One probably needs to take some sort of product of the u-value and the exposed area of the frame. Since aluminum frames are much thinner than other styles, there is less area to conduct and radiate heat compared to other styles. So I think looking at the whole window as a unit, the glass is much more significant than the frame. Especially here in the Bay Area - where outside temps rarely dip below freezing in the winter. Summer performance is much more important - especially on south and west facing walls. But again, with aluminum this is mostly a function of the glass - which is why I specified the SunCoatMAX glass. In retrospect I probably could have saved a few dollars, and gotten a little more ambient light, by not doing the SunCoatMAX glass on the north facing windows. When we were rebuilding our house, we rented a place that had vinyl window frames. Did not like the look, and did not like the way they worked. (Don't remember the manufacturer.)
