Hi Folks- This site is awesome and I sure hope this isn't a duplicate posting. I have been lurking out here for years but finally jumped in. I am planning to install T&G Ipe on my screened porch. The porch walls were built over the original decking and it is in good shape. The former owners of our house installed carpet over the decking and it has worked fine. I would like to be able to install the T&G ipe over the existing PT wood perpendicular to how it is running today. If I can't do that would love some ideas on how to remove the old deck the runs underneath the walls. Thanks in advance for the help! Jim

I try to go as wide a tread and low a riser as possible, but it is all dependent on where they are located and how much room. The wider the tread, the more run you have taking up space. 16-1/2 inch wide treads would be extremely comfortable if you have the room, imo. The widest i've done is 14-1/2" and it was fine.

Do not install an outside project like an inside floor. Do not nail ipe at all. Do not install ipe outside with out a drainage gap. Do not install KD ipe outside. Do not install ipe flooring outside as decking. There is no need to seal the cuts. Do not hire a Contractor and then worry if they are going to screw it up. Order the ipe T&G material>>> air dried,with an extra 1/8'' in the G,bevaled on the edges, install thru the G with ss screws and construstion adhesive, snug fit. I cut a 1/2'' slot in the T every 3' or so. Be very sure before you jump off a cliff that you can Fly. John Mon

Ipe is Ipe. Decay resistance is not a problem. Install of T&G ipe is an issue with out any know how I do not recomend a diy er try it on with no input from a Pro. J.
