What colour/type of hardware for an ivory shaker door...

Hello,

I have chosen our cabinets (ivory painted MDF - a lightly detailed shaker style), with either a black "granite-look" laminate countertop, medium oak floors and hopefully (if I win the battle....) a white porcelain farm sink. Our fridge is stainless steel but I'm fighting to see if I can get a panel ready one. All upper cabinets are a seeded glass (the rain glass) and the lighting with be a minimalist pendants over the island. Trim on the cabinets are contemporary and very simple. Trying for a crazy balance of cozy-contemporary with a bit of country thrown in with a slice of glamour :) I wish I had pics but it's all in my head (and on contracts!)

I was thinking a very clean, simple but cozy knob or pull ie/ library handles? what about glass knobs?

Any suggestions and PICTURES!!!! would be awesome!

We have creamy shaker cabs, absolute black silk granite, and natural stained wood floors. We'll be putting these cup pulls in ORB and the simple knobs.

I was going to say ORB cup pulls too! But Casey3 HOLD THE PHONE, before you order your pulls, be sure to check out a site that someone posted here this morning. Their ORB cup pulls are $2.81 each! Worth a look anyway, I'm not sure what size you want, but it's a fab price.

I, too, love, love painted black doors!! Due to the colors in our home, we ended up doing dark brown/black doors (Pratt & Lambert Obsidian). I love it, although I still wish I had black doors. One day, when we are repainting the house, I will choose colors that go with black! So, to your question. I would do all the same hardware, whether ORB or brushed nickel, etc. I also would do all doors the same color. I went through the same process - thinking only the first floor with brown doors but I was convinced by a colorist to treat all interior doors with the same color treatment so all the doors are brown. I don't regret it for a minute! I really love the look. Here are a few pics - all hardware is brass, as that is what was here. I love the color but I am not crazy about the style. I go with cloud_swift's idea. Although my eye is anal, so I'd have the line of 5-panel going straight across. There are drawers that are just too short to warrant the stiles and rails. Those, I'd go with slab. The larger drawers, where you could actually see the recessed panel, would be where I'd go 5-panel. It's the same with tall, skinny cabinets. 9" cabinets wouldn't show the detail! The rails and stiles would be right next to each other! The detail does show, even with darker cabinets. A pure slab is very much more modern -- unless they're inset. But you haven't mentioned which. As much as you talk about your handles and pulls, they're still going on a door or drawer. The detail behind them -- or lack thereof -- will change how the jewelery is showcased. I'd suggest just being consistent. Maybe all the top, skinny drawers slab, with the larger, lower drawers being detailed. You chose this because you liked it in the first place. Are you settling?

Woodharbor has some great looking flat-panel doors. Check out the Newport and Fairmont styles. I think both collections have similar doors, but one is wood and the other MDF. I'm sorry, but I do not know the price. I'm awaiting pricing from a local dealer. They are available in various species of wood, as well as various stains. Their website is woodharbordoors.com. I believe TruStile has similar styles. Here's one that is Shaker style, and, I think, gorgeous!

Only reason to have a pull would be if you have a tilt-out tray in front of the sink. In that case, just make sure that whatever pull type/placement you choose doesn't make it unpleasant to stand close up against the counter there, as that's what one tends to do when washing dishes. I used two wider-spread pulls on mine for that reason.

we have cream shaker cabinets, absolute black countertops, oak floors, and ORB knobs and handles. (There's glass in this cabinet now, but you get the idea)

DIAN47 YOU ROCK! That's just incredible. Have you actually ordered and received this amazing price on pulls? That just cannot be right. That price hardly covers the plastic bag they're packaged in!

Aged pewter (Top Knobs) is lovely with that combination as well.

But I can't beat that ORB price!

I can't take the credit for locating the distributer--check out Bamaspice's DIY kitchen. She mentions the hardware as part of her amazing transformation kitchen.

I don't know what look you're going for exactly but esp since you mentioned glass knobs, that is also what I envisioned for your space. The clear or green tinted glass knobs and pulls are what came to my mind to facilitate that clean, airy sleek, minimalist look. Or even the frosted glass ones a la Restoration Hardware's "vintage" glass and look! those are on sale too! :-) The glass pulls that go with most of their glass knobs are lovely too.

I must say, however, that I did like their "modern knob" and the associated pull also. RH's metal does tend to be very highly polished and has that mercury glass look that is quite unique. Metal will take away from the light airy look, however, and if that is what you are going for I think the glass best.
