Unfortunately ours isn't installed yet (a long, sad story that I may yet post today), but I can show you our prototype: From Kitchen Remodel The field tile was our special find. We found it on close-out from the manufacturer Unique Building Concepts at $2/SF. They had a little more than we needed, and we bought it all. The mosaic strip is cut from a 12x12 sheet also from UBC, and is called Nutmeg Versailles. Some of the tile matches the field tile. We couldn't leave well enough alone, though, and the teal 1x1s are added in, as is a copper 2x2 from Landmark Metalworks that will go in each section. The bronze liners are from Dal-Tile Maniscalco (I think that's the brand). We also have some copper quater rounds from Landmark that aren't in the prototype to be used in exposed outside corners. The switchplate that you can see at the lower right of the prototype was handpainted by an artist who has a company here in Denver called Taken for Granite. His specialty is matching granite patterns, but I think he did a great job matching the glass tile, given the difference in materials. We're going to have him do all of our switchplates/outlets. We thought we'd be done this week, but now it's looking like April at the earliest.

We are thinking of putting the dots on the diamond as well. Not sure yet. What do you think? So long as you realise it's going to be a WHOLE lot more work, or if you're having an installer do it, it'll cost more for the installation, then I'd say go for it. The reason I say that is if you set the tiles diagonally and then the dots square, you can set a jig on the saw, and then just clip the corners on the tiles you need to, one after another, without having to bother to measure each and every tile. If, however, you set the dots diagonally along WITH the tiles, now, not only do you have to measure to make sure you center the tiles on the joints between the field tiles, but then each of the four tiles for each dot is now also an "L" cut. The time just to cut the pieces in preparation for installation will extend exponentially. All that being said, though, I can understand why you'd do it. It WOULD look better, if you're willing to spend the time or the money.

I'd love to see it. We were planning on 2 x 4 calacatta tiles on either side of a stainless panel behind the cooktop. Now considering all marble tile. Is anyone having trouble with marble tiles behind their cooktop? Stains? Etching? Grout stains? Do you take speecial care to keep it looking nice? Thanks for your input/pics!

Hi Jeri, I am in the tail end of a mini remodel of my kitchen. Nothing fancy really, just counters, kept the cabs but rearranged a tiny bit, new appliances and details. Still working on the details. Lighting, molding... Looking at a modernaire hood but worried about the expense. I try to list each photo source next to the photo I post. I use magazine, web sites, blogs... Thanks for asking. Prill, I agree the beadboard and tile are really neat. It would not work in my house but I love the idea. ~boxerpups
