I find the nicest ones at World Market and Target. Pier One also has some good ones from time to time. I really enjoy a nice placemat, cloth napkin and napkin ring, and think it adds to the meal.

You will find the forum on "Holidays" very helpful. They do a lot of table setting for holidays,etc. They are very creative! LOL!

For easy everyday settings -- I have old-fashioned placemats from Pimpernel.

Basically they are cork-based with a nice picture on top. Very very sturdy -- easy to clean -- and I just have them stacked vertically between two cupboards.

Or a cheap-and-easy-to-wash tablecloth. I have a couple of everyday favorites -- one green and one red-checked.

I find placemats everywhere -- usually on the clearance aisles!

My favorite placemats are a leather look vinyl. Easy to wipe clean, and they always look good. I used always use cloth placemats, but they never look as good after they have been washed. Here is a pic of my placemats:

I have had them made to coordinate with my window treatments before.
My favorite are round wicker/rattan ones. I think I found them at Target. I use them inside and outside.

I am also considering the ones that remind me of matelasse from Ballards. They come in lots of different colors.

I just bought some today!! I love placemats! I buy mine from Williams Sonoma outlet which is nearby where I live. They have great bargains and today they had 30% off their already discounted price.
I also shop at World Market and they have some nice ones.

LOL Terriks I have that same placemat in three colors. It looks very nice and yet it's just cheap stuff. I can wash it with a quick soap and water rinse, and they always look nice.

I couldn't remember where I got those so I didn't post....I think it was either Fred Meyer, Pier One or Burlington...do you remember? I know they were very inexpensive. (Mine were all on sale)

Crate & Barrel has nice placemats/napkins etc...I like to shop their online sale and outlet.

I hate the high price of place mats, so I made some a few years ago (I wanted 12 that matched). They are made of denim with an interfaced back and a jeans looking pocket on the front. I put a folded up bandana for a napkin and the silverware in the pocket. I also used double thread and stitched twice so they had more or a jeans feel to them. I wash them frequently and haven't had any problems with them. Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I get a lot of compliments from them.

I'm a placemat junkie. I must have a dozen different styles, maybe more.

I also have the same ones as Terriks - they are so practical. I also have some really nice quality bamboo placemats I bought years ago at Target that not only wash well, but I've soaked in bleach solution a couple of times to remove stains.

I used to sew placemats to match kitchen window treatments - easy to make if you sew.
