The filter is a good filter. You will have to replumb as the two filters have opposite connections.

I'm about to purchase this filter as well. Please let me know how you make out.

Thanks Repair_Guy. I think my present Grid type of Pentair filter has water coming in at the bottom inlet and water going out at the top outlet. So the Quad has it going the opposite way?

Also, has anyone tried to coat the DE before putting the grids or the cartridge into the tank, like making a slurry in a trash bin and soak the thing (or brush it on)? When I use the standard method of filling the slurry through the skimmer, I often see the coating uneven, lots of clumps on top of the plastic thing.

Most DE filters want it added slowly through the skimmer for even coating. I usually set the flow for the skimmer I'm using to be higher than in normal operation when adding a fresh charge.

Water, not unlike electricity, seeks the path of least resistance. If you are getting clumping, it may be caused by other factors such as stretched grid cloth or clogs in the small diameter plumbing that make the grid frame or incomplete backwashing.

The Quad DE series cartridges should be soaked periodically per the manufacturer's recommendations to prevent this.

Hi repair_guy, I got my Quad 60. I haven't hooked it up yet. It has Inlet at the top and Outlet at the bottom, identical to the old Titan grid DE filter (I incorrectly posted inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top in an earlier post). I thought you said the inlet and outlet are opposite? Please clarify. Thanks

Sorry, I was confused again. The original Titan DE filter goes through a slide valve and it does appear that the inlet is probably at the bottom - opposite of the new Quad DE filter I just bought. To install the new filter, I am planning to go without the valve and just use the bulkhead adapters (part # 270100, in case anyone is doing the same). The bulkhead threads seem to be 3" but they are not. The adapter kit adapter is needed.

I just bought the Quad DE 60. I decided not to use a backflush valve since it seemed so easy to clean and that's a selling point they make. The only problem is, you need part number 270100, a 2" adapter kit, 2 of them, in order to properly fit 2" pipes in and out. I didn't know this. On their site, sales brochure and owners manual, it clearly shows it equipped with the adapter kits on both in and out valves. I didn't want to directly glue the pipes to the valves, and one of them was a loose fit anyway, so I used a 3" to 2" rubber reducer I found at Home Depot, the type with those metal screw tightener rings to tighten both ends. It fits perfectly, but it cannot take the pressure and blows off when I switch to spa circulation (higher pressure). (I wanted to use a hard plastic reducer that screws on, basically the same as the Pentair adpater kit, but Pentair uses their own thread count, so it doesn't fit). It is not the answer, so now I need to buy 2 part 270100s in order to make it fit right. When I called Pentair about this, the first rep said the part doesn't exist! I got her supervisor, she clearly saw the part on the photo I saw, but she had to ask the tech department about it (I figured out later what part I needed). My local pool supply store doesn't carry it, so I have buy online. To top it all off, it costs about the same as a backwash valve, so keep that in mind.

Actually, part 270100 costs half as much as a back wash valve because I discovered there are 2 valves in a pack, not 1. Got my system set up and working nicely now.

I finally got around to install the Quad DE 60. Took a good day to replumb. I did get those adapters. Some of the problems I encountered are: the lid does not close very well and it takes a great effor to really tighten the clamp to stop the water leak, to the point that I am afraid the bolt would break. And I could not use the 2 metal washers since with the added spacing the clamp was still a bit loose. The lid blew off a couple of times, never happened with my old Titan DE filter. Also, the DE does not coat the cartridge very well.

i hope u get this? i also have a 20yo titan vertical grid filter- 60# stainless steel. i was going to change it to the same as u- pentair quad de 60- but the owner of the pool store that i frequent told me to save a buck and wait. he said if i take care of filter by cleaning out/replacing grids as needed, i should be fine. he said my greatest cost would be replacing the element in it. about $300. but i don't need that right now either. i have a simple slide bachwash valve as well- i have to use a hammer to get it back down/closed- and i have tight pressure relief valve- i can't turn it without pliers and lotsa muscles... to be fair- i just have the guy wash out grids every 6mos, so i don't really mess with that valve. and if i have to backwash, i use the hammer! but anyways, so it sounds like u have maybe mixed feelings about your new filter? i really liked the fact that it seemed easier to clean etc and more efficient...i was planning to get the slide valve, which would have been incl with installation.

also- i am having the whisperflo 1hp 2sp installed this weds! i'm so excited! my 8year old pump pretty much kaput and so loud d/t bearings screeching. my pool is 21,000gal. i hope i haven't made a mistake by getting the 1hp vs the 1.5hp like u have. are u happy with your whisperflo?
