This sale does not seem to be happening as often as it used to.

And remember-- you don't have to pick your colors now. Just buy the paint, and when you're ready, bring it back in to have the color added.

I am so excited-- we are going to repaint all of my kids' bedrooms, plus the living room (finally, after living with a color I hate for a year, haha).

Just got back with two gallons, not tinted yet! Untinted, unopened cans are also returnable if you don't use them!

catkin - after the raw wood is primed, I'd put in a vote for SW Pro-Classic waterborne in a satin finish. Cashmere is a unique finish - it is not the toughest stuff around. Its final finish is luxe i.e. the Cashmere name. Most all of the SW products are DIY skillset friendly IMO. Duration, however, can be a challenge but anything that goes on at such a thick film, or mils, rate it's no surprise. You 'apply' Duration more so than 'paint' with it. If that makes any sense. SW vs. BenM -- it's all about matching the right product from each brand to the project and painter. Success and failures happen with each brand. Duration's gloss levels are shinier than general industry average. The matte is PLENTY shiny for me and just one or two more degrees of gloss and it would be too shiny IMO. The satin is equivalent to some semi-glosses if ya ask me. There are no industry standards for gloss levels. Every store should have samples so you can see and touch and evaluate -- be sure to ask to see them if they are not on display. It does make it difficult sometimes. Duration is a good example. Some people have very strong feelings about dead flat finishes. It does not meet their personal tolerances and in extreme cases it's been described to me as 'making my teeth hurt'. So, when I spec Duration Matte for one of those extreme tolerance cases, there's always a discussion about how it's not flat and shinier than you might think. Managing and spec'ing gloss levels is almost as much work as spec'ing color.

Errant, those are the only ones I've used-- the only one I've actually painted with (vs hiring) was SP. I don't see too much of a difference in the finish except that Duration has more sheen. My painter said most people use Cashmere, though. Can't wait to see your painted bedroom! Pesky, that is what I always do-- buy untinted and stock up, esp. for the Nov. sale, since there is such a long time before the next one. (Much more frequent in spring/summer.) But, keep your receipt and/or make sure they enter it into your account, because they sometimes will need a different base, depending on your chosen color. Then they just do an exchange. I have never had a problem-- even w/o a receipt and my account being at a different store-- but just in case.

You can always purchase Sherwin Williams paint without the tint added. When you decide the color, just take it back to the store and they will mix it with no extra cost. I've done this many times to take advantage of the sales.

Thanks for the heads up! I couldn't find many details online so I called my local SW store and manager said it's on a select varieties of paints...unfortunately I didn't take notes on which! Also I'm wondering how 40% off retails compares to contractors' discounts?

I had a painter purchase paint at MAB a few years ago. Since then SW purchased MAB. MAB still lets me purchase paint at the painters discount (which is about 40%). It's nice because I don't have to wait for a sale. It doesn't hurt to ask if your paint store would do the same thing.

Chloen, yes! The last time was Nov. I thought it was more then 2x a year, but perhaps I am wrong.

Anele, I want to repaint my bedroom, which is now in BM Quiet Moments. I actually like the Quiet Moments, but sometimes it's a little to minty. Also, my bedroom was a barn, and has pine beams, and my furniture is dark brown, while the rug is a wool stripe with different shoes of browns and cool, gray blues (very Cape Cod-y), so I want a gray, Nantucket-y blue (SW Languid blue is exactly it!) to strike a contrast next to the browns of the rug and furniture but compliment the blues and grays in the rug.

Also want to repaint my LR, which I did in BM White Sand, which I absolutely do NOT like (too peachy). I really want to do it in a darker taupe or brown, since there isn't a lot of wall space between the paintings and the windows, but the ceiling is pine and low, so I'm not sure it'll work. Too cave-like, maybe. HOwever, it's a winter LR, so warm and cozy works in that room.

Just came back from the hardware store and picked up a bunch of chips. I'm liking all of the taupes.

When I get home tomorrow, I'll put them all up and live with them for a while. I wouldn't be painting the LR until next fall anyway. I REALLY want to do it in BM Midsummer Night, but hmmmÃ¢ÂÂ¦that is really, really dark and may really need a white ceiling.

We'll see!
