Ok, you ladies realize that the pic IS indeed black shutters(first one's we bought and put on). I doubted them originally and now my husband is ready to kill me because I think they look better than the greenish ones. Looks like you all are favoring black. Any other suggestions to improve look of the house and curb appeal?

Hope it doesn't overwhelm. Had to tweak your original photo just a bit (brighter) so PS'd colors would look a bit more realistic. I stayed away from green's so much since you said mossy didn't work, but if you'd like to see something else, just let me know. ;) Color names are for reference only.

Hope these render OK, somehow sometimes when I upload to P-bucket the colors seem to change hues from what I applied with software. Very weird. (e.g. Dk Burgundy looks light and brownish now to me.)

I agree with pps7 - could edit out shutters on dormers or edit them out completely.

Shutters should be proportioned to the size of the window. They should be half the width of the window, so that when closed...if they could close they would cover the windows completely. Shutters should never be placed so that they don't rest against the side of the house...unless they are hinged, working shutters and can be closed in case of a heavy storm.
I would ditch the shutters on the dormers....they don't do a thing and get new wider shutters on the lower windows and really make a statement. I like the French Bulldog color.
I'm not skilled with photoshop or I would make you a mock up of what I am talking about.

Wow is all I can say to Moonshadow. Words cannot express the appreciation for ALL of her hard work and time in photoshopping those pics for me. My husband suggested not even putting back up the dormer shutters now that he has them down awaiting painting. I feel the house is so barren without it. I suggested doing white trim (eyebrows)over the garage windows but he is not keen on the idea. We certainly need landscaping and that is a whole other posting. I seem to be drawn to the black shutters and the tannin that Moonshadow posted but will have to go back and study the others. Again, thank you so very much for your kindness and hard work. I appreciate everyones input and postings! Any other suggestions appreciated. I feel my next project is finding something to spark up the boring front porch (pots etc)???

I vote for ditching the dormer shutters and buying new larger shutters in the right proportions for the other windows. If you can afford it, the best thing would be wooden shutters with working latches. And I love the French Bulldog Black color. Then add some boxwoods later when you're ready to do landscaping.

Thank you for all of these responses. I am confused as ever now. I started with what color and now most are voting for knixing them all together. I took pics this am (sorry a little shaded)of the house as it stands. See what I mean if I have nothing on there. Maybe Moon could do a mock up of just shutters somewhere else but dormers. Cant imagine how that would look right but anxious to see. I do love boxwoods thank you for suggestion. I am also perplexed by what to do on far right of house as far as hiding where garbage cans are stored (short stone wall matching house maybe? something else easier, landscaping like evergreens to hide?) hmmm ok thanks for continued responses. The house isn't "barren" without the dormer shutters, it's barren because there is absolutely no life around it.
Once you get some landscaping installed the look will change dramatically. I'd concentrate on that as the impact will be huge.

Pics up thread show shutters on dormers. When I put colors on those I was under the impression the shutters were already installed on the dormers (ala the model home link). But that might not be the case?

Anyway, pics below are of shutters on garage only, beefed up a bit, and I tossed in some quick landscaping just to give it a more finished appearance. (Sloppy mess under garage but was in a hurry.)

I vote for no shutters on dormers if they're not installed now. ;) A handful below, a few more added at top of page 1 in blondie's album here. (There is a white included there, uploaded to show it's one color I don't care for much, too heavy on the white, but that's just my .02)

I like it with no shutters on the dormers! What about the old fashioned style ones on the bottom that actually shut? Like in the south? Would that just not be the right style for the house? SOmeone has to know what I am talking about?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your kind compliments and all the hard work done on the photoshopping and critiquing of the house plan. I really do see now that the upper dormer shutters are well - inappropriate looking. Amazing how the landscaping completely transforms the place. We are just waiting for the right time to make the big splurge and do the landscaping design right. I surf the forums frequently but never really knew how to download photos etc. I am so glad I did. Thank you again for your time and responses back.
