Looks like an antique to me. Restoration Hardware has some that could be similar.

Look up flat weave wool or solid dhurrie rugs. Many years ago Pier One carried them. I have a not so clean one in my attic you are welcome to:). You may have some luck at a local carpet store. My online search shows all patterned and ticked styles. Presently solids are not on trend it seems.

The original source of that picture is from Rose Uniacke. You could try contacting her for information. I'm guessing since the same room has cashmere curtains that the rug costs a bomb, as the British would say. :)
