Help! How to tie in to a cast-iron clean-out.

I'm currently plumbing in a new bathroom on a 2nd floor and just completed all the DWV upstairs. Today I just went in the crawlspace to connect into my old 4" cast-iron line.

Luckily the waste pipe (PVC) is only a couple feet from a clean-out cap. What I had originally planned to do was to get a 4" male PVC adapter and then screw it into the treads of the cast-iron.

Well the problem is that neither a 3" or 4" male adapter fits! It like a size in-between! Is there a special size for clean-outs? I would almost guess that a 3.5" thread size would work.

Any suggestions are helpful as I'm currently stuck!
