Honed Marble Cleaner/Sealer

I just had my honed Carrera Marble island installed. I think one of the contractors put something on it and left a ring.

I know this has been dscussed before but help! What is the best cleaner for regular use and those tough things?

Ah, the first etching. Mine was etched within 24 hours, even with me growling like a protective new mom at everyone to be careful. If the contractor put an OJ bottle or something on it, its probably etched. So just know that soon there'll be marks all over it and it won't stand out so much!

Did your installers seal the marble (they should have)? If not, get some Miracle Porous Plus or other high-quality penetrating sealer and seal it. That'll help it not to stain, but nothing will prevent etching. You knew that already though, I'm sure!

I wash my counters with a neutral pH dish soap (do test your dish soap on a sample piece first!) and warm water.

Can we see pictures? I love marble counters!

Hi-in case you missed this thread-this forum can move fast!-here is some info about different sealers.

I always thought that if marble was kept properly sealed you could prevent etching as well as staining, but apparently that is not the case. Still, I'm sorry that your first mark came from the person who installed it. I'd also love to see your countertops :)

Black Absolute is too dense to absorb a sealer and the enhancer your stone company applied is wearing off - hence the different color spots. Ask them what to use to strip their sealer so you can totally remove the product they applied. Then get a product like MB6 - a color-enhancing sealer - and apply that on the clean, unsealed counter tops according to the directions. Here is a link that might be useful: MB Stone Care

Thank you so much Babushka cat! I read all about your counters when I was contemplating my own. There don't seem to be a lot of us creamo delicato owners out there. (I also have an orange & white cat...although I don't think mine would fit in a bowl-he's almost 20lbs!). Was your 511 applied after any other sealer or was that the only product you've used? Any other experiences? Maybe Bill V is still around??

I really like Granite Gold 2-in-1 cleaner and polish. It's not a sealer. I seal the marble separately once a year, also with the Granite Gold product. I've been very happy with this brand but I can't say they are necessarily superior to other brands since my experience with other brands is limited. I've used it on polished calacatta gold marble counter in my master bathroom and polished carrara marble on furniture only.

I used Miracle 511 on a honed, hand-polished perimeter counter, because I liked the difference it made in the color (enhanced), and the fact that the counter is often used as buffet service. When I did the research, the term being used for the Miracle 511 was impregnator, but sealer is commonly accepted. The honed carrara island top isn't sealed. I roll dough on the counter, and although I've read the chemicals are food-safe, I decided against using one. The marble has etches, where I haven't smoothed them to blend with the honed finish, but no stains. The only stain that was a real challenge to remove was pollen from some Oriental lilies. Just a small stain, but it was bright yellow-gold!
