Did you run water with the drain snake? What did you pull from the drain line when you removed the snake? I am not a professional plumber, but do know how to snake a drain line. Every time I've done it right a big clog of debris comes up with the snake. Even while running the water hose down the clean out, the snake will pull out the clog. Running the water hose ensures the drain line has been opened properly, before you go through the labor of putting everything back together! Upstairs plumbing is rarely affected by blockages on a lower level.

My FiL had a stand pipe in his basement. He stuffed a tennis ball in it & poured hydraulic cement on top of the ball. In 88 when we had widespread flooding, a 5â x 7â chunk of his basement floor heaved 6â ��" so the bottom of the small piece was at least 2â above the upper surface of the main floor. WouldnâÂÂtâÂÂve happened if heâÂÂd left the pipe open, or at lease wouldnâÂÂtâÂÂve happened if all the water had to do is pop the tennis ball out. I can still remember the smells coming from my grandmaâÂÂs root cellar. She kept sauerkraut and 2 kinds of pickles in crocks, + all the canned goods she put up. My grandpa would head to the root cellar every day when he got home from work (They never owned a car). First, he would grab a handful of kraut from the crock and eat it, then a homemade beer from the coolish cellar. They had a room that had been dedicated as a coal bin, too. What nice memories ....... Drains are often plugged up with a 'soft clog' made up of grease, fibrous material and general gunk which a standard snake will punch through without dislodging. The clog will then seal back up when the snake is withdrawn. A rotary snake, either manual or electric, is better at clearing the clog, especially when the tip is run through the clog multiple times, though kitchen grease, which should never be put down a kitchen drain, can be a real pain.

If you hang around here long enough Joel,they wiil persuade you to just sell the place and buy a new one with pvc lines and no contraptions. LOL. It is not nessary to cut the line. Pull the sink lines off rough plumbing copper beneath sink and have at it. Do not put bladder in one side of sink unless someone is holding stopper in oppisite sink,otherwise a guyser will hit you in the face. Pressure applied at clog will be water supply pressure plus head from sink to trap. As for why running the snake through failed to unclog. Had the line been filled with water and backed up,it might have started a small flow which would progressivly desolve clog as snake was worked back and forth.
