not true at all. the problem with a disposal is people think they are for putting whole uncut pineapples down. they are for scraping residue off plates before washing. as long as you use them properly, there will be no issues.

if you want the deep sink, then just get it. there is no requirement you have a disposal.

Simple thought reveals that use of a garbage disposal adds to the load of solids (even if finely ground) (compared to liquids) going into the septic tank. Undigested grease is a big enemy of septic tanks. Meat scraps have undigested grease. Get rid of the disposal.

You have to be careful of what goes down the disposal and sewer lines if you have a septic system. As bus_driver said, grease is the culprit, and so are other items that go down the toilet. Femine hygiene products and baby wipes are a no-no since neither dissolves and can plug the lines in your leach fields.

I have a septic and I also have a disposal. I'm careful of what goes down the drain. Mostly vege trimmings go down the disposal and large amounts of greasy leftover food go in the garbage (can be frozen while you wait for garbage day) or out in the field.
I could easily do without a disposal and did for many years.

Thank you for your input and information. I never realized how seldom we actually use it until this whole issue of a new sink came into play. I think I'd rather have a sink that doesn't dull, chip, or scratch as opposed to the disposal!

Ditch the disposal and get the sink you want. I live in rural area and my disposal is 100% natural, requires no energy to run, and never clogs up my septic system. My disposal is simply to put all the scrap food out in back of the yard and I have raccoons and possums that will devour anything I put out. My disposal is good for the environment and the ecosystem of Mother Nature...nothing goes to waste in our home...waste not, want not.

DO NOT FEED THE RACCONS!!!!!

they are wild animals that can and often do carry rabies. if you feed them they will come closer and closer to your home and they will start to dig in everything and especially your trash cans. it is one thing to put scraps several hundred feet away, but never put it right by the house. coons and possums are shot on sight in my area as they are nuisance animals.

I've lived on a septic system for 35 years and the new house will be the same. I had a disposal only for the last 6 years, and I used it carefully. Greasy wastes went into the garbage -- in a plastic container or baggie first. Any compostable materials were buried directly in my flower beds, hosta beds, or veggie garden. Over the years, I really built up some beautiful soil with tons of earthworms! Sorry to leave that property -- I'll be starting over at the new place, burying scraps and building soil.
