In Master Bedroom, should I replace dressers with wall to wall closet?
Comments (10)Yeah, in our old house we dressed in the bedroom, but when we designed this house we on purpose moved that activity from the part of the suite where the bed is. My DH travels a ton for work and often has late or early flights, so we designed our master to keep noise low in the bedroom section. When you open the door to the master suite, you are in a short hall. The dressing room/closet is on your left, then the bath. There is a cased opening directly in front of you that leads into the bed area. Basically, there are no doors in the bedroom part of the suite. People who want to be super close to their toilet or closet might not like it, and it wouldn't work at all if our closet were small, but it is so perfect for us! He can lug his suitcase in, brush his teeth, whatever...and I am not disturbed. Plus, I like not having dressers in the bedroom....See MoreWhat size rug should I be aiming at for my bedroom?
Comments (16)Thank you all! We definitely prefer wool -- I wasn't seriously considering the amazon one, except it was a shaggier type which I liked. We may indeed go with the wool one. Thank you for the feedback to go larger! And yes...we will be orienting this rug wide not long -- but we are just going to do it when we get the new rug, since I don't like the heavy dark colors in our already dark bedroom. Re: "unmade bed"...not sure if that was a joke or a jab....that bed was made, by our standards -- not as tidily as usual maybe, but honestly some days we're lucky *anything* gets done around the house, given the toll full-time demanding jobs, kids, commutes, and everything else can take on our time. I did apologize for the untidy look of the room, but I'm not sure why someone felt the need to leave such a comment in a forum that is intended to be supportive. All others, thank you so much for your help!! Very much appreciated. We're planning to get the rug in a few weeks, and I'll be sure to post updated pics here....See MoreCan I convert my 3 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom house and is it worth
Comments (8)Check on an appraisers forum to see if there would be any difference in value. Unless you are getting cash for the sale or a large down payment from the buyer the appraisal will be the determining factor if you actually get more at the sale. If you do this change, do it for yourself and not for resale. If you do this change, make sure you don't make the current floorplan dysfunctional as that will take value away. If you are using the exact same square footage and not adding any, then it is doubtful that your home would add value but you would need to get twin sales in the area to see how much, if anything, is added to the value. It may open up the buyer pool and sell more quickly though. As the others mentioned consulting with a couple of Realtors in your area would help you get a handle on the current market....See MoreShould I add drapes to my bedroom?
Comments (31)I would have some custom work done. I would do floating walnut or teak wood bedside tables below each side window that goes to the edge of each windows casing. Then I would carry that same wood all the way across and up to the bottom casing on the center section to make a "headboard" if you will. This would all be made/installed to look like one piece. Then I would mount simple crisp white drapery panels on the outside of each window to add more texture. Last I would have some rattan lights hardwired to hang above each bedside table. This is a very rough mock up obviously but to give you an idea. Lights would match just showing options. and if you don't want to get into electrical then some more organic feeling lamnops You have great windows in that room and I would show them off. The panels would also go on the windows to the side of the bed....See Moreles917
