vocal kitten never stops

I have had my kitten only about two months.He is a beautiful orange tabby with long silky hair about 5 months old and ALREADY NEUTERED.He is the cutest thing ever and I love him but he is driving us all crazy with non stop meowing.

He meows in the litter box,meows when your not paying attention to him,meows at his toys,meows at the door,meows when you shut him out of a room (which is really bad because sometimes he is so hyper he has to be shut out or we will never get any sleep)and he will sit right up underneath the door and meow like he's being killed!

Meows just to hear himself meow all day and all night long!

We do have two other kitties and they barely meow at all,so I'am really not used to this.

He has been to a vet,is all caught up on shots,dewormed,healthy,and doesnt appear to be in any pain.He has a hearty appetite and is drinking fine.

Any advice? Any reason he's doing this? Someone told me orange cats are just kinda nutty.

Must be those orange cats. I also have an orange tabby, Clancy, and he has a very loud voice...He's the "boss" of the other 2 in the house and he makes sure they know it...He and I do alot of "talking" and he always has to have the last word...I often thought if anyone ever heard the way he cries, they would think we're hurting him...I know what you mean about not sleeping. Clancy thinks he's the only one allowed on the bed during the night and heaven forbid if the girls should jump up...But, he's my baby and love him no matter what.....

Make sure that you and the other humans in his life are not responding in any way to the vocalization.

A Report from Joann: Kittens. I fed them every hour all night, they ate 1ml of milk replacer. By five AM they were up to two. At nine Am they were eating three. By this afternoon they ate six and all peed. They had gone 48 hrs without food or water when I got them. They also suck on my hands and the syringe we are working on going to a bottle. It really is looking up for them. They look so much alike I bought some of those dots like for a file and stick one on each kitten's head take it off when it gets fed so I don't feed one kitten three times and starve the other two. If they start falling off I have markers and will color their tails different colors.

I think your kittens are bonding already. Kittens do a lot of mock fighting, chasing, and lying in wait and attacking each other, and it is all part of "growing up cat." I bred Abyssinian kittens in Japan for 7 years, so I have had the fun of seeing a lot of kittens. It sounds to me like the case Cat Mom describes. I always assumed that a kitten that squealed was protesting being hurt, but something interesting happened to me when I was bottle-raising an abandoned kitten. I used to "play' with it. It would get on its back and attack my hand, biting and scratching me. My hand would pretend it was trying to reach the kitten's tummy to tickle it, and I never did anything that could hurt the kitten, but IT would squeal as if it were being hurt, while it really was hurting my hand. That tipped me off to the fact that at least some of the cries kittens utter while play-fighting really just mean that they are excited. There were times when we had a new kitten and some adult cat didn't like it--maybe even administered a small bite or slapped the kitten on the head, but even then, there was no damage, and within two weeks at the longest they were friends. Just supervise a little when they are playing.

From what you describe this is something he has always done??? You have removed him from the company of his companions and he is calling for them! Some cats are just very vocal so you may not be able to quieten him down completely.You might try Rescue Remedy to calm him down.He could still be stressed from the move and the other "strange" animals in the house.Don't know what else to tell you.Good luck:)

I feed her Fancy Feast because the cans are small and none of my cats will eat any soft food after it has been refrigerated. Have no idea why but they refuse to, even if I warm it up. They will also not eat any canned food that has sat on a plate for more than a few hours. Unless some of the food she ate was contaminated, there wasn't really anything else she would have gotten into. One thing I thought of but the vet didn't think much of it- my kitten has this suckling behavior that she does quite often. Especially at night she will go to this teddy bear we gave her or to any soft blanket and she will kneed and suck at the blanket like she is nursing. The vet said she was probably taken away from her mother too young (have no idea as she was a stray I found at my mailbox one day). I was thinking that we had washed all the bedding on the previous Sunday and maybe she ingested some chemicals or detergent from a blanket she was sucking on. She seems to be 100% better now. SHe is running around like crazy, play bites me and purrs while she does it and plays with all the other cats as she used to. She is also eating everything I put in front of her. No more vomiting or diarhea. I plan to take her for a follow up in a few weeks. One interesting thing is my 2nd youngest cat has not eaten canned food in about three years (she is four years old) and if you offer her some, she tries to cover it up and walks away. She looks at you like "WHAT are you trying to feed me!??" like she is disgusted. Well after my kitten (hillary) got sick my other baby girl who won't touch the canned food, tried it one night and now she loves it! So every time I feed the baby my 2nd youngest wants to eat some of her food too. Just thought that was interesting that after all this time she now likes canned food.

My SIL's kitten did this and he has outgrown it quite a bit now. It used to drive my BIL nuts. My cats talk (to us, to each other, they cry when they can't find the other, they meow when they want something), but it isn't excessive, I actually like it.

Your kitten must be related to mine! I found her when she was four weeks old and she hasn't stopped talking since. When she is mad (not hurt) but just upset you have locked her out of your room or aren't paying attention to her, she has this sharp "pay attention to me!" meow that sounds like nails on chalkboard. She "talks" when she uses her litter box, when she wants fed, when she plays with her toys, when she goes down to the basement and wants us to go down there and play with her. I have four cats total and two others meow when they want fed (one female is very insistent) however my fourth kitty rarely talks at all- I forget what her "meow" sounds like. My little one is constantly making noise, she is either purring or talking to us.

As one poster suggested, if you want your kitten to stop this make sure you don't respond to his "talking" because he is training you to respond to his meowing. It is too late for me- when my little one cries or talks to me I give her attention or come running. Good luck.

Wow,thank you so much for all the nice replies :)

Ifnyc,you are absolutely right about ignoring him.I didnt know that and kept telling him to stop.
After posting this,and doing some research online,I have found out that you are supposed to ignore them.That scolding in anyway (even squirting with water) is not suggested because what the kitten really wants is attention if it's negative.(who would have guessed that!!!)
That by coming to them or saying something to them,you are letting them know that if they cry long enough they will get what they want.(Just like a kid)

So I have been trying this...and at first it was really hard because he cried louder and louder and kept it going for like a straight hour!
But now he will do it for about 10 minutes then stop,so we are making progress.
And,he is just too adorable to stay annoyed with :)

And what I meant to say was that the kitten really wants attention ***EVEN if it is negative.(not that the kitten wants negative attention)
