P-trap or S-Trap?

Does anyone know if the code ever allows an S-Trap? I'm installing a stand pipe for a clothers washer and it would be more convenient to use an S-Trap.

From the US Inspect website:
The full "S" trap or 3/4 "S" trap should not be used in plumbing installations. These traps are almost impossible to vent properly. The 3/4 "SÂ trap forms a perfect siphon. The problem with "S" traps is that the waste water may siphon out, causing the trap to lose its liquid seal. Every plumbing fixture, such as sinks, tubs and showers, should have a proper trap. Toilet traps are built into the bowl of the toilet. If a sink, etc. does not have a trap, trace the drain for other inequities that may be present (i.e. draining into a sump pump, a dry well or to the exterior surface). In older construction, there are thousands of "S" traps in use. Older building codes did not address this issue. In many cases it will be very difficult to change an "S" trap to a "P" trap.
Can you install a studor vent to alleviate this problem?

The guy at Home Depot just proved to you why he is stocking shelves instead of working in the plumbing trade. Using an 1-1/2" trap as suggest by the Home Depot clerk would be two code violations. 1. A shower is required to have a 2" trap and a 2" drain line & 2. The drain basket in the base of the shower already has a 2" discharge and code strictly prohibits reducing the size of a drain line in the direction of flow. You may need to consult a framer about sistering that joist so you can notch it. The plumbing code prohibits any notches on the top of a floor joist in the center 1/3 of the overall span. On the outer 1/3 of the joist you may notch to a depth not to exceed 1/6 the height of the joist. (a 2x10 could be notched a maximum of 1-1/2").

Thanks for the responses! After posting this I did go to our local plumbing supply store. They quoted me about $640 for all the parts in ORB finish, Which honestly is a little more than I was wanting to spend, but might be the best I can find. WD - I chose this type of sink because the bathroom is a 3.5 x 9 room under a stairwell. Because of a cold air return and the layout of the space the sink is mounted where there's not a lot of room in front of it (picture below). I thought putting a vanity might clutter the space more and make it seem smaller. Kudz - I think I'll want to use a tradition P trap instead of the bottle. As fun is the plumbing code is I'm not sure I care to pick through it for bottle traps haha! I am attempting the look in the second picture (just different finish).

If the escutcheon still won't cover the slip nut after whittling it down as Kudzu suggests, you can replace it with a metal slip nut which has a smaller overall profile.
