If there's trees around you'll want to get something that can cut through roots, which you can rent at most rental places. Depending on what is clogging it and how long the pipe is you'll need something pretty big, like a Drain Rooter, with considerable power, and if so you might actually save money if you hire a drain cleaning company (Rotorooter, etc.) rather than rent or buy. But if it's a minor clog, you could perhaps get away with a heavy duty hand-held or drill-operated snake. Don't worry about the perforated holes, the snake won't get stuck in them, or damage them.

Don't know what rates run where you are, but when I went to rent a powered drain auger I decided against it because of the weight- getting one of those things in and out of the back of a car is a two man job. My timing was bad -no handy neighbors- so I had a "Mr. Rooter" guy do it for $85.00. I think the snake rented for $50, which seems a lot.

The 3/8" x 25' plumbing snake/auger worked up to a certain point then the plastic piece broke off which was connected to my electric drill. I need to return the broken plumbing snake then buy a better one.
My neighbor put a garden hose into the 4" perforated drain pipe and ran water. The water finally began flowing to the other end.
I don't mind digging but I was sort of lost about how to go about using an auger and running water into the pipe. At least I am learning and I appreciate all of your help.
I hope we finish up the job in morning before the temperature reaches 100 degress again.
