Quality of Montauk Sofa or Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic slipcovered
Comments (0)Hello, This is my first time posting, though I have been lurking of and on for several months. I'm shopping for a slipcovered loveseat or settee and wanted to know whether any of the members of this forum have an opinion on the quality of either Montauk Sofa or Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic? Any opinions or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks:)...See MoreAlternatives to Rachel Ashwell

Comments (11)Thanks for posting the pics! The hutch is lovely and would be great painted as would all the other pieces. But, since you're hestitant to paint, why not leave it as it and make some painted or fabric covered boards to go behind the shelves and the area between the hutch and the bottom. Change the hardware to something a little more cottage/shabby - maybe glass ones. That, and the right accessories would really lighten the piece up. An easy fix for the tile table would be to have a round piece of wood cut to fit the tiled part and either paint it to match the color in the hutch or cover it in fabric. Then get a glass top to cover/protect it. The detail on the table edge is very nice. You could also remove the tile and do your own fun, shabby tile treatment. Tile can also be painted. Just protect it with a glass top and felt protectors. Are you using those chairs? I really like them and they would be perfect covered in the same/coordinating fabric as the valance as they have a very nice, romantic look. And yes, you can paint formica. It takes some prep work but it's easy(I painted my counters and it lasted for years with some care). Clean very well Lightly sand Clean again Prime with Kilz, use a light hand, let dry and give it one more coat. Let the primer cure for a day. Paint with your choice of paint After the paint is dry, apply 10 to 15 light coats of Minwax's Satin Finish Polycrylic. It dries very fast and you can usually apply another coat in 15 - 30 minutes but only if you applied a light coat. And that's pretty much it. I used pledge to clean and protect it. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of using what you have and making it the best it can be. :-D Here is a link that might be useful: Glass Pulls...See MoreShabby Chic stores closed
Comments (9)I knew my ears were burning! lol Well, since the stores are closing, I will come clean. DD1 went to work for Shabby Chic after graduating last spring. She worked at the new Corte Madera store until it closed. She was their top salesperson and LOVED her job more than words can say. Luckily - or so we thought - she and the CM manager were offered jobs at the Fillmore Street store. Now it is closing. :( We are all very sad. It was THE perfect job for her, especially since she not only loves the merchandise (and already knew it so well) but has been living the Shabby Chic lifestyle for almost 6 years now. The silk quilt at the foot of her bed (last apartment, she has changed up since then) hasn't been sold by the store for awhile now. Too bad you missed out on it! Had been on sale for only $99 and was machine washable! She made a sale to a lady on the elevator (before she even worked for the store) when coming up from the laundry room. lol (Okay, just finished reading your post! I see you knew about the $99). There was another thread a month+ ago. Mostly flyingflower, Tina and I chatting. It was pulled for whatever reason. The remaining stores are to close by June 6th. The Fillmore St store received a new shipment last week, one yesterday and another due tomorrow. It's my understanding that will be the end of new shipments. DD1 has received a new job offer, but nothing is written in stone yet. She had hoped to get her own store and move up to Corporate. It was not just a job for her but a career. She has loved (almost) every minute of working at Shabby Chic and would love to work for Rachel again in the future. *I say "almost" since the stress of not knowing if stores were going to close/stay open, etc and then the closing of stores themselves is quite hectic.
