That is really neat tile! I was kinda thinking something to bring in the greys/SS. Those SS inserts would certainly do the job!

I'd have to see a sample sheet up next to your granite though. I thought I'd like mosaic 2 X 2 slate tiles until I saw them in my kitchen in person- they were too busy for my situation. But those tiles you picked don't have too much color variation which I think makes them less busy.

I wasn't looking to make my order over the web (without seeing a set against the wall) but they do seem to work well (with the cabinet, counters, and floor). I have a couple local tile shops I still want to go to... so we'll see.

Honestly? I think that might be a bit too busy for your granite. The color areas in your granite and those on the mosaic are about the same scale and they might fight each other. I would love your kitchen with a clear white backed glass subway. It will have a hint of grayed blue/green as that's the color of glass and be stunning with your cabinets and granite. i also love the crisp, cleaness of it now and wouldn't mind a sleek matte white subway with a very pale gray grout.

I also wondered if the tiles were too busy, but the counter to cabinet height is about 13.5" inches. Not very high... so then I thought maybe the remainder of the wall (with the pale paint color) would help it out?

The remaining rooms have accent walls painted but we left the kitchen the light paint color with the thoughts of adding color from the backsplash.

Those are really nice tiles, but I agree that they will probably compete with your granite too much and paint color won't really detract from that. I'd probably just go with an off white tile and incorporate some accents in it for the pop. Your stone and cabinets are much like mine. My granite is busy enough that I wanted a very subdued backsplash. See the link below for the American Olean tiles we chose. The SS tiles are from their "Artistic Elements Metalworks" series. The mural tile is 12" square, SS over ceramic. The accent tiles are 2" square. I still love them 4 years later. Good luck finding something you'll love, too.

I was playing around with your kitchen and a problem is the backsplash area is broken by the window and the top cabinets on the right don't extend to the end of the peninsula. Extending the backsplash out to where there are no cabinets above didn't look right and ending it where the top cabinets end is an awkward spot. If you use a darker backsplash it will accentuate those problems, and make the kitchen look too broken up, but if it blends into the wall color they are minimized. I did a very rough mockup with a mini 1 x 2 glass subway tile called milkglass from susanjablonmosaics.com. The scale isn't right...sorry! It comes both flat and with a curve, and I changed the wall color a little. The slight blue gray tint works with your granite, cabinets and floor color, I think better than the beige color.

If you're not doing a window covering you can add one or two glass shelves between the two cabinets on either side of the window and put pots of flowers or herbs there. Would be pretty and soften the bare window.

I'm just looking for someone to show these cool bronze backsplash tiles too! They look more SS to me.

We have a similiar palate of colors-- i think we will be going with something like these ceramics... with mosaics.... not sure if it will be these mosaics-- trying to find something with a bit more color... I really like the shine next to the granite and cabinet... The bottom row would be the brownish color and the ivory would go above.....

My wife had an idea today of...

- Lighter tiles (maybe tans) for the backsplash
- Stainless switch plates (believe there are 5-6 on kitchen walls)
- Black pulls for the cabinets

I agree that the lighter colors in the tile would not blur the cabinets/counter into the backsplash, and maybe the stainless steel face plates would go with the appliances, and then black cabinet pulls would go with the black in the granite?

Still need to see and test some tile on the wall... but just another thought.
