Slightly OT: Cleaning vent hood question

I've regularly cleaned my vent hood, top and bottom, and cleaned the grates, wiped off the lights and thought they were all kept pretty clean. I don't know what happened, but I looked up and noticed a ring of stuff around the outside of each light bulb. I took the bulbs and the trim rings out and cleaned them, but there is a broken ring of sticky gunk inside the cavity for each light bulb that I am having trouble removing. This is where the edge of the bulb would be up inside the can a bit, not at the edge. I cannot spray up there -- there is a bare socket -- plus, it will drip down in my face. The cleaners I have tried to spray onto a rag and wipe are helping, but not that much.

Any thoughts on something to try other than hours of working at it with the same cleaners? TIA
