Replacing 10 yr old Delta Monitor 2 piece shower head/lever

Just moved in and we'd like to replace the showerhead, neck leading to it and the volume lever since the gold plating is peeling off.

Plumber came in and said if the model was discontinued he'd have to tear up the wall behind the shower rather than just place new fixtures on the shower wall and be done with it. Sure enough after checking in his office, he said he's gonna have to tear the wall up to get to the pipes.

Our separate stand up shower has a Delta Monitor with the simple shower head and single volume control lever and temp dial for the 2nd piece. The home was built in 1996 ...

Does this sound right that the plumber cannot just switch the things out from the from and connect to the existing piping?

Delta has a lifetime warranty on finish.

I'd call them at 1-800-345-3358 and see what they have to say.

A bigtime THANK YOU, justalurker!!!

I called Delta and they're sending out a trim kit and a new cartridge that will enable us to change our old trim (1500 series) to a new 1700 series that they're providing for free!

We have our 1st child coming in mid-August so the $$ saved was truly needed. Thanks again...

10bac10- I’m so flattered that you like my basket weave. Dimensions are below. It’s marble tile. In my opinion, using marble is not a decision to be made lightly. There are many posts in Houzz which essentially say ”Stop! Dont use marble!” But , a good friend has had a similar marble in her shower for over 10 years, with not a trace of issue. She takes special care with it and uses specific products in her shower. i don’t have marble anywhere else in my home. My basket weave is 4 feet high and 2 feet wide and bordered with a neutral colored but slightly veined pencil trim which blends with the basket weave and which I think helps to frame the basket weave. (See photo; color may not show accurately due to my crummy camera). The veins shown in the enlarged photo aren’t visible from a distance and are a subtle accent even when seen close- up. Both trim and basket weave are marble. My large and plainer wall tile is not marble. Because the basket weave is marble , I tried to avoid using it on the floor - but it looked unbalanced to me when I only had it on the wall. Again, as noted above, a friend has similar marble and has had no etching, starbursts, etc.,,that marble can get To achieve this, she uses only ph balanced shampoos, conditioners , cleansers, and soap in her shower. I do the same. I wipe down both floor and wall tile after each shower - to speed the drying process- and run a ceiling fan. I squeegee the shower door after showering, It has a special coating to repel water spots and it works beautifully. All my shower tile has been sealed and will need resealing periodically, I don’t find any of this effort a challenge but maybe that’s because I really enjoy having this bathroom after living with a truly awful one for many, many years.

I had extremely low water pressure in my shower for years and it's recently become unbearable. So being the computer geek that I am I did a few google searches which led me to this posting which I found extremely helpful. I removed the cartridge and cleaned all of the mineral deposits from inside the housing, flushed the housing by turning the water back on and then replaced the old cartridge with a new one I purchased at lowe's. I was so excited that after years I was going to have good water pressure again. So I was very dissappointed when I turned the shower back on and it was still barely a trickle out of the shower arm. So off to lowe's I went at 8 at night to buy a 1/4 inch drum auger. I inserted it into the shower arm and it wouldnt make the bend to go down the supply pipe. I removed the shower arm and attempted to insert the auger again, but still no luck. Since it appeared to be an issue with the diameter of the end of the auger being too large, I cut it off with a pair of tin snips. I know that I was ruining the auger, but if it fixed my shower it was only $13. After removing the end and adding some dish soap for lubrication I was able to insert the auger and run it all the way down to the valve. After a few turns of the drum handle I withdrew the auger and tried the water again. This time the water flushed out a bunch of white debris/mineral deposits and I had great water pressure again. I apologize for being long winded, but I never saw this solution posted any where and thought I'd put it out there in case it would be of help to anyone else

Oh, I didn't realize you wanted to run both the rain shower and regular showerhead at the same time. Check your state and local codes. In California, where I live, building inspectors usually won't pass multiple simultaneous outlets anymore due to the new water regulations. The age of the "human car wash" spa shower is over in CA, lol. Even if each outlet was limited to the national 2.5 gpm, they often added up to 10 gpm or more (old showerheads used to flow about 5 gpm). The Hansgrohe three-way "green" diverter I used met CA code because only one water source at a time could be selected. A non-green code version is available too, but I didn't may any attention to the details because I can't use it here. The advice to use 3/4 inch pipes instead of 1/2 is good, though I am not well versed on the pressure loop concept. We've always had good water pressure in our house (city water supply and a not-very-old pressure regulator). Master bathroom and hall bathroom's pipes are within a shared wall. We removed all the 1/2 inch copper supply lines and replaced with 3/4 inch PEX while the shared wall was exposed during the first bathroom remodel (1/2 inch PEX from supply lines to each outlet). Water pressure is as good as it's ever been, even with reduced flow showerheads (Hansgrohe Raindance @ 2 gpm). One way around the issue of two shower sources going at the same time in the same shower area may be to have a controller/valve for each shower spray source, because then it's no different than two people showering at the same time but in different bathrooms. But check with your building department just to be sure. And the cost of two valves, two trim kits, and additional labor is higher, so you'll have to consider if having both showers spraying at the same time is worth the extra expense.

I just don’t have time to fix it. When I called the foreman, he said that it was necessary to change the valves ... I had to look for the best industrial valve manufacturer usa. I spent quite a lot of time comparing reviews of different companies (it's a pity that I didn't think of creating a topic on the forum and asking you). Anyway, now I don't have this problem. The only negative is that the accident site dries up for a very long time. Maybe there are some ways to speed it up?

You're welcome ... but it always amazes me that people never start at square one.

In this Internet age ... first contact the manufacturer and see what they'll do for you. If they blow you off, then post on the forums what a lousy company they are ... BUT, if they stand behind their product shout THAT loud also.

Well, in my defense, my idea of a warranty is one that applies to the purchaser of a product. I am not the original purchaser ... in fact a reference to Delta's warranty I came across said that it applied to the original purchaser as long as that person owns the home.

After your great tip, I called just trying to get info about the old model and transitioning to a new one and the Delta rep brought the warranty up.

We purchased our home in 2003. The Delta Monitor single hand shower faucet broke inside (the cartridge assembly) and we went to Lowe's and to Home Depot. We called around and even called Delta. I got a very RUDE lady on the phone and said it had broken and flooded my bathroom floor and we had the water turned off. I asked about a lifetime warranty. She asked if I was the original owner and I said no. She said she had the part but I would have to pay the 76.00 for it plus S&H. She was very arogant and I said that people do not stay in a house long and that the lifetime warranty was very misleading. I told her before I purchased it from Delta I would hire a plumber to come to my house and pull out all the Delta faucets (I have 3 1/2 baths) and put in something that was better. She said she was sorry to hear that and in her arrogant voice said goodbye. My husband found the part 35 miles from our home. It was actually cheaper than what the lady at Delta said it would be. Nice product life for something that has a lifetime warranty but last only 9 years.

Anybody else have this problem. I will never deal with Delta again.

We faced the same-so much for telling the truth about the ownership. May be we had a same Rude-Arrogant lady (probably all Delta reps are same-trained). We are not the original owners, and she gave us the same responses about life time warranty and ownership. And in addition she was very difficult to give answers on where to find replacement parts. Her only option was find a plumbing supply store or buy from her during that call. After some research I found the parts 20 miles from my house and cheaper.
Yup...no more buying, promoting, recomending Delta products.
