Do you ever worry that you think about your new build so much...
Comments (26)Same here with the frustration and depression to be moved in but not really "finished". And knowing that will actually take years since we did all the work ourselves and I'm totally burned out. And yet I've been doing this for a year now and I struggle to turn the "builder's brain" off. That being said, the SO proposed this spring when we moved in, so I've swapped "builder's brain" for "marriage planning" and suddenly I have a whole new hobby to keep me busy. I of course, feared that I was replacing one obsession with another and post-wedding would likely find myself doubly-depressed...only to realize that we're gung-ho to start our family so we're pretty much going to never stop and just be bored again in our lives. Which is kinda terrifying too....See MoreHeight for hanging island pendants?
Comments (2)Depends a little on how you want to light the space: in the area of my sink, I have pendants off the side of the window, hung low because there's nothing on the other side I want to look at. Otherwise, bottom should be top-of-head level for your tallest family member if its 'walk under' space, your [or your spouse's] eye level for 'over island' [etc] space-- no point in hanging them super high for the visual comfort of an oversized teen ager who'll likely be out of the house long before you want to change the fixtures out again....See MoreLights above island - How far do u hang em?
Comments (10)bestyears is right with the 30-36". Ours are 36". Here's a photo. I didn't realize it, but it's true, your shouldn't be concerned about you or your husband's height because the lights are in the middle of the island and it's not like you will be bumping into them. The consideration should be if you have stools and the lights aren't so high they shine in the faces of the people sitting at the stools, i.e., they can look up into them, or that they are so low they interfere with those sitting's line of vision across the island....See MoreWhat do I need to know about island pendants?
Comments (11)wwwonderwhiskers, Sorry for delay. I didn't know you'd posted to me. Here's half of my peninsula. Click on Flickr pages for more views, but none is good shot of peninsula, sorry. You can see the lights. "Denmark" by Quoizel. Length is almost 9 feet from wall, width is 41.5 inches. DH and I talked about the intensity of light recently. We've decided that my discomfort may also be in part a result of the items we face--a dark wall or windows. The chopping station faces dark wall; sitters face window wall which is light-colored even at night. DH likes the lights even at 100 watt, although he dimmers them sometimes. One issue we did not think through at beginning--the swing of cupboard doors that could smack a pendant. We're very close.
