Root Killer chemicals for septic system maintenance

We found eucalyptus rootlets in our septic tank when we had to replace leach lines. Our contractor advises using a chemical periodically to prevent root or rootlet intrusions. (Removing the huge eucalyptus tree, which is 10 ft. from the septic tank, is not an option.) Does anyone have experience, positive or negative, with that procedure? Is the tree weakened by using the chemicals? I have found a "foaming root killer" product which has as the active ingredient Dichlobenil (2.6 - dichlorobenzonitrile).
