AnnKathryn, I wasn't able to find your Decolov vanity. By any chance, do you have a model name? KMCG, I have seen that vanity and I like it but didn't think it would work. I'll give another look. I exchanged the floor tile today. I thought I would use the Yakarta Floor in the color pictured above, but the Blanco has grey tones and it didn't work. Instead I went for a light gray tile - after much agony. I am thinking about getting this vanity American Standard Casada 30" but it doesn't come with a top or faucet so it's beginning to run a little high - along with everything else.

Are you planning to change out your backsplash? Brown might look good with your current countertops if you're at all interested in keeping them. What material are they? I think white or cream would look better with your floors than the dark, but it is hard to tell from the photos. I have a similar tile in my laundry room but it also has swirls of brown so my dark brown cherry cabinets would look great with it. And for those of us who missed the sunshine ceiling, please post. Festusbodine - thanks for the link to your blog. Wowzers! You've got a BIG project on your hands! I won't complain about my humble kitchen remodel anymore.... Seems as though you either LOVE the idea of light counters w/ dark cabs or HATE it. I received a comment on another thread I started about our adventures in cabinetland...I mentioned the counters/backsplash and also asked for honest opinions. One person (OK, several...) strongly encouraged me to rethink the light/dark combo - and consider a darker counter (such as soapstone). I LOVE soapstone! (LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!) But, I'm concerned my galley west-facing kitchen will be dark most of the day if we go w/dark counters...(Lighting should be more than adequate - pendants over windows, lots of recessed lights, undercabinet lights)...but still concerned and don't want a dark kitchen....(We originally wanted a white Christopher Peacock-like kitchen, but that wasn't in the cards.) I like the contrast. I don't like the busy-ness of granite. For about a minute, we considered Formica 180FX, but I think their samples are WAAAAAY too busy....I like the simple white counter with a little activity (if you get close). I think it looks contemporary and clean without totally committing to a contemporary look. Wow. I need more coffee this morning, as this post seems rather confusing.... Suzanne

I would do very light colored furniture I love white leather in cowhide not super soft leather it will stand up well to everyday use and still look awesome. The idea to choose a rug for the main living space is a good one but I do not like rugs in kitchens too much of a tripping hazard IMO. I have to say the FP really does not work with that kitchen so maybe look at the very least painting it black but better would be a new refacing in a different style like maybe large format tile .Could you post a to scale floor plan that would be helpful for furniture size and placement. These pics are of my LR with a gray/ green laminate floor that looks like slate . We entertain a lot and have 3 big dogs the white leather sofas still look like new and i love that I can change pillows anytime I want a color change the arrangement is also able to be changed from time to time . We have 2 sofas a chairs and a bench since the space is quite large 25 x15 .These are just a couple of ways I move the furniture pieces.
