I think you should make more and sell them! You can pick up costume pearl necklaces at thrift shops and fabric on sale to make the profit larger. Throw in a bit of vintage lace, whatever! Maybe a way to help tide you over and something you can do when you feel up to it. And I find working on designing something is good therapy! They are stunning!

Thanks all. I appreciate your compliments. I just sewed three sides of the pillow and hand sewed the last seam. Plus all the pearls and other decorations are hand sewn. I am not that good of a seamstress. I make too many mistakes to think I could sell anything. Like if I went shopping for a pillow and saw my workmanship selling for $50 I would say no thank you. I can design a lot better than I can sew. Plus I don't know how to do zippers and better pillows have zippers. I bet any of you could do what I have done and do it better.
I will have to keep the pets away from the all white bedding when I do get the bed finally. I just made these pillows for the future and to help expel my boredom of having to sit at home all the time.
I now have to fight the state insurance people because they canceled my health insurance as of April 1st (just got letter yesterday) because I finally got my unemployment straightened out. I make $110 too much a month via unemployent to qualify for the $903 limit of income for state insurance. Now, isn't that a ripoff? To have the insurance qualifying number below the unemployent number. That makes no sense at all. So I am asking for the fair hearing and on Monday calling the number to get insurance at a low premium. I am still undergoing chemo in April plus surgery in May plus all the checkups I will have to have after surgery. Wish me luck.

3D swing and a miss! Come on! You already did the straight seams. Get some scraps of fabric and a couple of zippers, instructions and practice. If you screw up take it out and try again. It isn't hard just takes practice. And if all you do is zippers in pillows it will be a no brainer! You can put them in by hand too. Make the pillow covers to fit standard size forms. You can then mail them in a padded evelope to customers! No boxes or special trips to Fed Ex.!
Just a thought! Then you can see your designs take shape!

I'll bet you could sell those! Especially for brides or babies, or a special gift. Some fine pillows don't have zippers, but as someone said -- just a bit of practice and you've got it.

PLEASE reconsider - you do not have to do zippers - in fact I prefer pillows without zippers. If you use standard pillow sizes, you can make pillow 'wardrobes' that a buyer can change out seasonally for a quick redecorating fix. Look at this type of closure

It's easy to get the pillow forms in and out and doesn't require a zipper (which reduces your production costs). Then as cooperbaily said, shipping is easy when you're only shipping the covers.

BTW - when you get your production going, I prefer the lumbar pillow shape ;-)

Thanks for the ideas. I did do one pillow sham with the type of closure/opening you have shown. I will have to practice more with my sewing before I start a business.
I actually donated like 15-20 pillows to Goodwill since I had no need or room for them. Some I had made and some I had bought. Thanks again for the compliments and ideas.

Thanks so much. The one in front I did not make nor did I make the lambs fur one. The one in front has clear beads rather than pearls. The two I bought last year were from Dillards on sale. I like the one in front best also. LOL.

Good luck with your insurance matter. Is COBRA an option? I think that part of Obama's health care reform includes extending COBRA coverage to those on unemployment for an extended period (I think it used to be 8 months under the former plan, & it's over a year now.)

I know you're doing all your homework & checking out all the options. You're a very resourceful lady & you always figure out how to address whatever challenges present themselves! I & so many others here will be praying about this for you. Thanks for the update & best wishes!

Thanks stinky. My former employer did not offer Cobra because they are not required to since they have under 20 employees. Plus Cobra is very, very expensive - like $1500 a month or so.
Today, I will call some numbers to try and line up insurance so I can get my surgery in May. AHCCCS, which is the AZ state insurance, sent a letter saying my coverage is up April 30th so at least my chemo is covered since I finish on April 13th.
Thank you all for any prayers. Make sure you also pray for Daniel (see conversations side) who is still in the hospital. Daniel is a son of one of golddust's good friends.
