Well, drip irrigation, solar/battery/pump?

I have this idea and I would love some feedback...mainly, is thing going to work? Is there a much better way to do this?

I have a well that is very shallow - I think they drilled it to a max depth of 14 feet. The water naturally sits at about 18 inches below the ground level. This well is right next to my planter boxes.

So I was thinking I could get some kind of big 12v battery, like a marine one. I would put a solar charger on it to keep the battery topped off. Then, on a programmed schedule, the I would have a 12VDC pump pull water out of the well at 1GPM max and drive a drip irrigation system that watered my five 3x6 planter boxes.

My hopes are:

1. The pump will be strong enough to lift the water out and drive the irrigation lines

2. The solar charger(s) will be able to replenish the battery between pumpings.

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks!
