Parthenocissus quinquefolia; the latin name for Virginia creeper. It just has such a nice ring to it.

Actually, I often do like the "hard to find" plants. I have great soil, regular rainfall, and a green thumb, so I can grow most anything for my zone, unless it's a desert type plant. I have garden clubs come every year, and despite gardens of overflowing phlox, iris, salvias, etc. they are always drawn to the unusual, something they haven't seen before. "Hard to find" often means "slow to grow, and doesn't like dividing", not necessarily difficult.

Well I LIKE what rosegal had to say best, but the one I quote the most, as it really drives home the point that there's really NO SUCH THING as an "expert gardener" is the one the American Horticultural Society uses as the subtitle for its magazine, from Thomas Jefferson, who was one of America's first great gardeners... "Though an old man, I am but a young gardener."

Are there comforting words possible; that's a complex question and depends on the people in the situation. If there were things that 'should have been said' and your husband has the feeling or thinking that there were; ask him what they were. It's maybe something he kept himself from saying, which he could have said or wanted to say. When words fail a person, they fail a person. People will then, quite naturally usually act or react based on 'instinct' or intuition. If your natural reaction was that words failed, so a hug ensued... that's just the nature of reality as far as you in that situation. By definition it was your best possible response it sounds like. Your friend may not have known how she felt if she only just got a major medical diagnosis, and all kinds of sudden imposed change on her life and any plans she may have had. You could offer literally anything they need, or if they need to talk... if there is anything you could do, ever to help them (that sort of thing). Also make sure their nears and dears know of your offer too because sometimes there are indirect needs; or needs that won't be mentioned but which would be really really appreciated. when words fail there can be no speech; whatever else happens would have to be nonverbal and a hug-- simple human contact and touch-- is not only as good as it may get, but it may also have been better than words could have been at the time

I copied and pasted my response from another mantra/motto post. I have since bought a Nike Just Do It tee shirt that I wear on clean up days to keep me on track. This is strange but I have found something that has made me more productive and happier. With Nike staring at me from every closet and garage shelf, their "Just Do It" slogan hit me. I have a bad habit of letting things slide; simple projects/tasks that are staring me in the face, things that make me think of them in the middle of the night, or reach out to me as I pass. This constant nagging brings me down but I still don't tackle them. Examples: For 3 weeks the empty bird feeders kept saying "fill me" every time I looked out the window; clean out the refrigerator vegetable bin; or dust the guest room. I have changed my 'I'll do it later' mentality to a "Just Do It" mantra. For a month I have followed this tactic and it is paying off. I "Just Do It" and I am happier that I have completed the task and my mind is no longer nagging me with a multitude of little but annoying unfinished tasks; kind of like defragging your computer. Granted, there are still major organizing and cleaning projects that need to be done but I am clearing out the little naggers daily. I know we all have to find our own motivator to keep the Procrastination Monster at bay. Thanks for letting me share mine.

Alchemilla mollis - lady's mantle.

I also love the plant - after the rain there is always a big drop of water cradled in the centre of the leaf and it shines like a prism in the sun.

I used to work with a gal that had the cutest words in her vocabulary. The one word that stuck with me was "gription"
She formed this word from the words "grip" and "traction"

Not necessarily a favorite...but most likely a curse word...altho I use certain phrases over and over to my pets.
Like to Piggy Sue, I say "Mean to pigths." And she falls over so I can scratch her belly.

Also Daisy, from this forum and MH, told about a woman who said "vagenda" instead of agenda, so I have adopted that word and ask my husband all the time, "What's on your vagenda?" He says it back to me sometimes.

We enjoy reusing 'words' our DS used as a toddler. 'Binker' is sprinkler. 'Abacado' is avacado. "Read me!" means "Read to me."

A couple of Hawaiian words I like are 'puka' (a hole or depression; also belly-button) and 'okole' (a part of your body that you need to get up off to get something done). 'Ohana' is nice. That's your family, immediate and extended; can also mean a small house built FOR family on a larger property. And, of course, 'aloha'!

Once when my late MIL (an RN and former hospital administrator -- and all-around crabby lady!) was in hospital, she chewed out an aide who was giving her a bedbath 'backwards': face last, after washing all the other 'places'. (Yeah, ick!) The flustered aide then tried to give MIL some meds that MIL knew were not hers. MIL refused to take them. The aide insisted she had to take them because, "The doctor said so. These are DETRIMENTAL!" That's become a family saying.

Oh, another word I like: inadvertently. Well, I like it; I don't know if that's indadvertent or not.

I learned a bit of Arabic when we lived in Tripoli, Lybia, and one of my favorite words is "molish." Not sure of that spelling, but it means "oh well, what the heck" that kind of thing. So Ken and I use it a lot. :)

Somehow, when I saw the title of this thread, on this forum, I just KNEW that few would have a "favorite word", in the singular form!

My favorite word? A hyphenated one, "thank-you", when said to someone giving me a LARGE sum of cash! (sigh) Guess you know I don't get to say my favorite word. But it could change... it could! Yeah, and monkeys could fly out my butt too...
