An entirely different cushion question: buying new Lee sofa

HI,

We're buying a Lee sofa and chairs. I sat in the chair at Crate and Barrel and it was very comfortable. It was the "Lee Naturals" line, the cushions of which have a soy-based foam and recycled foam filling. The problem is, it's new and doesn't have a track record yet. (We haven't sat on the exact sofa.)

For a lot more $$ we can get down surrounding foam. My MIL has had this for decades and it still looks and feels great. But how do you know if all down-wrapped foam cushions are equal?

What do you have? How has foam held up through the years? (Lee says this stuff is more durable than regular foam.) How about down wrapped around foam: Has anyone had this and felt it didn't hold up well? Anyone know what the life expectancy of either stuffing is?

Our only experience has been with our cheap, old foam filled sofa. It started looking crummy after about 8 or 9 years. Maybe that's to be expected, but as I said, my MIL's looked perfect 20 years longer than that!

Thanks!
