Seasonal Allergies!!!!

Are you suffering more this year? Mine are horrible and much earlier than usual. What are you taking for them?

I saw the allegery map a couple days ago, seems the Southern half of the US is really hard hit. I'm in Long Island NY, just starting to get hit with the pollen. The Weather forecasters say allergies will be worse than usual this year, due to "ideal" conditions, lots of rain and the warmer weather. I still have a bottle of Fluonase in my medicine chest, think I'll phone my doctor for a new prescription. I did notice my eyes were itchy this morning.

I take Allegra when mine are bad.

Oh I do feel for you. I was in the same boat. Suffered with it for decades. I'm 51 and went to the allergist almost 3 years ago. I have sneezed as soon as I wake up in the morning for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid. The older I got the worse it got. I was EATING nasal decongestant pills, and using the OTC nasal sprays like crazy. They made my blood pressure go up. Went to the allergist finally. Got all the tests on both arms and my shoulders, I swear it wasn't bad. I'm allergic to almost everything that grows outside, dogs, cats, dust mites, pollen, yada, yada. I started getting allergy shots. 3 shots twice a week. I have 3 different bottles of serum they use. They started combining 2 of them so I would only get one shot in each arm at ea. appt. I'm finally down to going once a month. I take Allegra and use Rhinocort and Azelastine nasal sprays. This combination works for me. I go MONTHS without sneezing now. It's truly amazing. I also use a nasal salt water rinse, truly a miracle that salt water! She told me to close the windows, get rid of the carpet get rid of the dog. I did 2 out of 3, can't get rid of my old man of a dog, he's 15 1/2 now, he'll be gone soon enough. Make sure when you use the sinus rinse you use the packets of salt for it and also use distilled water, and heat it up some, but not so much it burns. Oh, and when the sinus headaches get bad, heat up a gel mask in the microwave and put it on your forehead and just under your eyes. If you don't have a mask, get a washcloth wet then heat it in the microwave. Good luck, hope you feel better. Here is a link that might be useful: what I use

I had strong hay fewer from childhood so I know how limiting allergies can be. I used to hate it sooo much. And practically all pills made me sleepy, even if they had "Non drowsy" labels all over... And no pills helped entirely, I always had more or less allergic problems. So when my doctor put me on Singulair it just simple has changed my life. I am not sleepy and I practically do not have any alergic problems. My alergic asthma is perfectly controlled too. Actually last year I first time in my life could smell spring. It is funny - I always thought that spring smells just in poetry since I was not able to smell it really. I am so fond of Singulair that I always recommend it to everybody with allergies. It definitely has changed my life...and I know it sounds kinda ridiculous. But if you had such a bad allergy and suddenly you did get rid of it - you would understand. Anyway, good luck to everybody to control any allergy.

Tim takes Zyrtec and Chip Singular. I stop both in the fall and restart right before things start comming to life outside. The doctor doesn't think I should do this but if they don't need it than why give it. They are both taking it for seasonal, enviromental allergies. Such as certain grasses, trees, plants. They both are allergy free during the winter so there's no sense in pumping them with chemicals if they don't need it. Chip does great on the Singular but the Zyrtec provided very little relief for Tim last year. Probably will have to try something else. These allergies and Chips asthma is why I can't use the clothesline which I love for sheets. Oh well less work using the dryer. Lol.

my dgs has been having problem with is eyes...told dd to contact her peds doc since her twin bro and older sister have had problems...she using 24 hr benedryl and it's not lasting...

Lucky You Glenda! I never had them until about 5 years ago.I still don't have them bad but they have been bothering me a lot lately.I have a constant tickle in my throat and have to suck on a cough drop a lot.DDIL told me today that I need to go to the doctor because she can hear me coughing at night.I told her if she and DS would quit smoking in the bathroom I wouldn't be coughing as much! LOL I can smell it through my A/C vent and I have the vent closed! I take benadryl and that usually takes care of it.My doctor gave me a prescription back in the fall for a nasal spray but it was $135.00 so I figured I'd just keep doing what I had been doing.LOL Everything is blooming here now so I'm sure that is the biggest problem.Cigarette smoke bothers me more than anything.They usually don't smoke in the house except for night time,in their bathroom.

I'm one of the lucky ones who have no allergies. My friend and everyone else in my area have been hit hard with the oak pollen. We are supposed to have rain today and they are hoping it will wash the pollen out.
