Help - suddenly need to pick out pendant for sink!

We walked through our new construction with the electrician yesterday and he says we can't put a recessed light above our kitchen sink because a second story joist is in the way. I am okay with that, but need help finding a pendant that will go. I am planning to use the Pottery Barn Ridged Pendant - 2 of them - over the island and need something to go with those. Or should I use the same one? The kitchen will be the ever popular white dove/soapstone/heart pine/blue-gray walls. Here is the island pendant (tried to post a picture but cannot). Need to order these in the next week! Help!

I think it'll be fine to use the same fixture if the size is right, or a similar one in ribbed clear glass BUT...

if you have doubts, don't let them rush you. Put in your island lights and just have this one left as a wired box in the ceiling. If you need a fixture in it to pass inspection, throw up something cheap. It does NOT need to be ordered now if you aren't sure. (If PB has a good return policy, might as well order it though!)

It's and easy quick DIY project to install a light fixture so there is no need to commit before you're ready. Don't need to have it picked out for when the electrician is there.

Hi kristinva,
I was just looking at those pendants in my catalog that came yesterday. I love them, but I think they are only 40 watts. Are you sure that will be bright enough over your island. They will only cast light downward not out,since the shell is metal. I know because I have two similar ones over my island with 100 bulbs and wish it were brighter.

Just something you might want to consider... I think it would be fine over a sink if you have more cans everywhere.

Thanks all. My husband hated the Kichler Quinn. He hates drum lights. He is difficult! He is set on a light that doesnt hang down over the kitchen table. I may be able to change that, but i'm not sure. He's very set in his ideas. So far I am thinking of either the Hudson Valley Darien in Antique Nickel with a white glass shade (8" size) Or the Boston pendant on Circa Lighting's page in Antique Nickel Or I could go back with the pendants I had in my last house, which were Hubbardton Forge. They dont have a nickel finish, but I could get Smoke, Black, Burnished Steel...In my last house I had black, but the part right above the glass globe was copper. It was very pretty And then I am sort of liking one of these lights for over the table (if I went with HF) or Still unsure on the Hubbardton Forge though. I like the lights when I see them in a room, but I'm not always sold just seeing a picture of the light by itself.

Hi namarie, if you are considering this fixture please check it out in real life if you can. You might want to see if you would be able to later swap out the bulbs for 60W equivalent LED filaments so that it will be sufficiently bright to work at your island -- shouldn't be too bad since there are only 6. The look of LED filaments seems to be improving quickly. Good luck!

Are we talking about the "entry" right at the front door? Or the space up on the step up area toward the stairs. Basically, though, it's the base of the table that will somewhat define the style. The more rustic, it becomes more "Mountain lodge" and the more refined it can go modern, contemporary or even more "transitional". They are also pretty expensive so before you invest money there, figure out how much you want to or can spend now, and then start selecting things you like and create an "Ideabook" here on Houzz. That will help you "define" which style direction you like. You can "like" a number of styles, but ultimately one will become more apparent than others.

To your question about the pendants in relation to hanging from the track, Yes you can order any line voltage pendant, preferably on cord or chain, the rods make it a bit more challenging as to the adapter. They make about 3 kinds of adapters for track pendants depending on what you need. As to placement, because you have track it actually allows you to move them to whatever area you would like them to be in.
