Interesting. But an 18" range? That can't be right. Thanks for the link, although the author seems rather confused, like with the five-burner oven.

But I'm all for this trend, myself.

thanks for posting the article, jillsee. :)

makes sense that as more boomers become empty-nesters, more people will be downsizing.

    (but an 18" range?!)

i once thought of getting this one and taking it to an auto body shop to be painted... but it's 20". too cute, no?

I had a 20" gas range in an old 1950's townhouse we rented when we were first married. I loved it! It had a broiler in it too. I think it makes sense in downsized spaces. I had 4ft of countertop, total, in that kitchen! We'll be a family of 4 (plus greyhound) living in our 5th wheel for 5 months during this reno so I'll be quite intimate with mini-appliances by the end of it!

I think smaller appliances are quite common in Europe too.

There are 104 ranges listed on AJ Madison that are 20-24" in width. To go high end you have to go to 24" (AGA, BlueStar, FiveStar, American, Viking, Bertazzoni)

2-hob cooktops start at 12" a 2-hob Wolf starts at 15". Four hobs start at 24" or slightly under.

    53 24" ovens listed.

Personally I think this one is pretty cute, if you want a smoothtop:
