Slider Rolls

Just wanted to show-off DH's new breadmaking skills! These are right out of the oven cheddar rolls (slider size) for burgers & ham sandwiches. They are so darn good toasted. I *think* he's got a pretty good teacher! Whatcha think???

Thank you for the follow-up, Becky. Still, I'm inspired to come up w/ a roasted chicken pasta bake since you mentioned the dish up thread. I've come up w/ a pasta & veggies bake that the family loves and I'm thinking that I can incorporate chicken (maybe chkn tenders) to move it from just a side dish to being an entree. I've been lightly steaming broccoli & carrots and mixing the veggies w/ cooked rotini. Pasta & veggies go into a glass baking dish & gets drizzled w/ olive oil & seasoned w/ grated romano, fresh garlic & liberally doused w/ that no salt seasoning (house brand stuff from Big Lots, of all places!) Pop into the oven for 30 minutes or so. Maybe I could lightly saute some breast tenders and top the pasta dish w/ the tenders & finish in the oven? I doubt I would have thought to expand on the dish w/o your having mentioned the recipe you were going to try. Ci

I saw the recipe on Pinterest and had to try them. I've made them twice since. They're great for a group. I found it better to sprinkle the poppy seeds on top of the buns after the sauce is on because the seemed to clump up in all that butter/mustard lusciousness. I've used different cheese, too. It's all good! Also, I used little Vienna rolls because I thought the Hawaiian would be too sweet. I'll try them next time. BTW, they are also called "funeral sandwiches" on some recipes because people do take them to homes when there is a death in the family. It just may be my favorite sandwich!

Kenji uses American cheese as the main cheese. In the article I read, he said that nothing else melts like American cheese. However, he will also use cheddar or gruyere. He thinks most other cheeses are okay as add-ins but the main cheese needs to melt nicely. Cooks Illustrated had an article once on grilled cheese sandwiches. They recommended grating cheddar for better melting. Can you tell I’m a grilled cheese aficionado? 😉 Back to pimento cheese, I can’t remember ever not having it in the house. Mother’s standard picnic fare was fried chicken, pimento cheese sandwiches, potato salad, and a watermelon. Her recipe for pimento cheese was grated ”rat cheese,” Domedary chopped pimentos, drained, Miracle Whip (Mom despised mayonnaise, especially homemade mayo), salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar.

Oh Yum , I'm doing smoked pork BBQ and burger sliders for a New Years Day get together.

I'm thinking of doing three or different rolls and these would be a great addition..recipe please!

LOL DH is loving his new bread machine! He makes the dough in the machine & then shapes, rises, & bakes according to his desire.

I don't think physically I can type an entire recipe but most everybody here knows the basics for bread so here's what we used...

1 Egg slightly beaten (room temp)
Water added to beaten egg to equal 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 cups (water around 90-95 degrees)

2 Teaspoons Sugar
2 Teaspoons Salt
1/3 Cup Dry Milk Powder
3 Tablespoons olive oil
1-1/2 Cups Extra Sharp Cheddar (Cabot Private Reserve)
4 Cups unbleached bread flour

1-1/2 Teaspoons yeast

This made 2 pounds of dough (24 slider rolls).

We baked on parchment-lined baking sheet at 350 degrees for 22 minutes. Oh, they were brushed with melted butter prior to baking.

After shaping, he let them rise 30 minutes (inside the oven with a bowl of hot water & the oven light on). Don't forget to remove them from the oven when you're preheating!

They are absolutely delicious for burgers!
