DC , smelled like Smoke ?

Went to the PO today and picked up 2 Packages.

The PO woman asked if I was burning Leaves, said I smelled like Smoke.

One larger package was the Food Processor ,I ondered from Amazon.

Dcarch:

Sent the other smaller Package. It smelled like Garlic.

The PO Clerk verified, that is what she smelled.

Had to open it there.

This is what I found !!!

DC:

I generally rather give gifts, than recieve them.

Have to make an exception in this case.

The smell is making me Hungry !!!

Nice gift! Haven't seen anyone report back on what they're doing with the black garlic and if they like it. Hello out there?!?

Today I'm doing a trial run of the filet mignon I plan on serving for Christmas dinner. I'm going to incorporate black garlic into the duxelles which will be served on the beef. Not the linked recipe, but very similar in concept.

You could always try setting some apple cider vinegar out in dishes. We had skunk smell that permeated the whole house from dogs who were let in after they had gotten a direct hit. The house was awful. We didn't know what we were going to do until someone told us to boil some vinegar on the stove and also place dishes of vinegar around the house. The house then smelled like vinegar which wasn't a whole lot better than the skunk but when the vinegar smell went away, so did the skunk smell. I would imagine that the shades may have the smoke smell in them. I would try wiping them down with a vinegar/water solution. I would also wipe all the woodwork. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be!

In one of my few posts here, I cited a new recipe I tried using smoked paprika. It was really delicious: SCALLOPS WITH SMOKED PAPRIKA WITH ORANGE COUSCOUS Yield: 4 servings For couscous: 4 t. olive oil 1/4 t. saffron threads, crushed 1 1/2 cups instant couscous (I used whole wheat couscous) 1/2 t. kosher salt 2 T. unsalted butter, diced 2 t. grated orange zest For scallops: 1 1/2 t. smoked paprika 1 1/2 t. ground cumin 3/4 t. coarsely ground black pepper 1/8 t. ground red (cayenne) pepper 12 extra-large sea scallops (1 1/4- 1 1/2 lb), side muscles removed Olive oil Kosher salt 1 T. chopped flat-leaf parsley 4 orange wedges To prepare couscous: In a medium saucepan with a lid, bring 2 cups of water, olive oil and saffron to a boil. Remove from heat; stir in couscous, salt, butter and orange zest. Cover and let stand at least 5 minutes or longer while you prepare the scallops. Fluff couscous with a fork before serving. To prepare scallops: Stir together paprika, cumin, black pepper and red pepper in a small bowl. Spread the spice mixture on a dinner plate. Pat scallops dry, then roll each one on all sides in the spice mixture. Coat the bottom of a large, heavy skillet with a thin layer of olive oil; place over medium-high heat. When it's hot, add enough scallops to fit comfortably in a single layer. Saute until cooked through, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove and continue, adding oil if needed, until all scallops are cooked. Season scallops with salt to taste. To serve: Spoon a mound of couscous on each of 4 dinner plates; top each serving with 3 scallops. Garnish each serving with a sprinkle of parsley and an orange wedge. jamaraz The flame emblem on your thermostat means nothing other than your furnace or boiler is supposed to be operating. Some digital thermostats have a very tight band of controlling your thermostat setting. Obviously, yours does not. I don't recall my thermostat for my dual fuel system ever overshooting or undershooting stat setting. You might ask your dealer about this as it can affect both comfort and operating cost. It is doubtful that the overshooting that you appear to have is the cause of the "smell". Keep in mind that most if not all nat gas distributors place an odor additive in the nat gas to alert users of a possible leak. Nat gas by itself and carbon monoxide do not smell. Ask servicing dealer to check for both carbon monoxide and nat gas leaks as well as good operation of your boiler. I still think discussing your situation with the local fire dept is a good idea. IMO

Spent the week-end camping with 29 Brownies and four teenagers (plus four of us leaders). Everything I own smells like campfire LOL! Even though I showered and wore fresh clothes, somebody at work said I still smell like campfire. It's my SHOES! And my bra, but we won't tell them that ROFL! Dances.

Yikes, FOAS! That's the same site & recipe I've got copied for us to try. I can't get DH enthused about it. He thinks it's more complicated than he's willing to tackle. I'm working on him though...

Anxious to hear about your trial run. Also saw a Chopped show last night using black garlic combined with raspberries for a sauce. I thought that looked interesting. We've got lots of freeze-dried raspberries so that might be a possibility.

Saw the Chopped show last night, too, and it was the first time I'd ever heard of black garlic. Guess I've been living in the dark. Also guess I need to get some and try out it out in an appropriate recipe. I've got raspberries in the freezer.

I hope you will enjoy them. Black garlic is delicious, as well as great for health.

Use them regularly, you will be eating very well and very healthy.

You may not need those red pills, purple pills, blue pills ---- :-)

Tricia - Turned out great although I'd say I used to much garlic in the duxelles (roughly six to a half pound of mushrooms) so I'm glad I did the trial run and know to cut back. Again, I didn't follow that recipe but it was quite similar.
