I did plan my kitchen for that fridge but I guess it's your pantry that's the problem, not the fridge. Would it be possible to avoid the issue altogether and have a pullout pantry instead of pullout shelves?

I don't have a KA fridge (I have a Samsung FD CD), but I have the same configuration of wall, pantry, fridge, counter that you have, and I have full overlay cabs.

I have three 1.5 inch fillers: one between the pantry and wall (do you have filler there? Your pic shows molding on your door frame and without filler can your pantry door even open 90 degrees?), one between the pantry and fridge, and then one on the other side of the fridge (this one could be smaller than 1.5 inches but was made to match the other two). My cabinets are frameless, and my cabinet maker used special hinges on the pantry doors so that when the doors are open, they do not block the opening at all - they are outside of the cabinet box. I hope that makes sense, but it probably doesn't. At any rate, I don't remember why he used those hinges, but he had a good reason for doing it (I think it might have been because it is less likely that the rollouts would hit the doors?). But, I think those hinges require a little bit wider fillers and would only apply to frameless cabinets.

I think you are right that you really want the pantry doors to open more than 90 degrees.

I agree with the pantry pullout suggestion. It might be easier to use anyway for getting things in and out. With the pantry that pudgybaby shows above, you have to open two doors and slide out the shelf to reach things. With a pullout cab, you only have one motion--pull it out.

We have the Samsung FD CD refrigerator too. Love it. Pudgybaby, how are you sticking that piece of paper on your fridge? Taped?

Pudgybaby -- you are my hero! That's exactly what I needed to see (and your cabinets are almost exactly what I am ordering -- I couldn't have asked for a better mock-up of the issue I'm asking about!) I like how the 1.5" fillers look on either side of the pantry, and you're right that I may have an issue with the doorway molding to the left, as well. I think I will ask the KD to add the 1.5" to either side of the pantry, and we'll stick with the panel that we now have planned (I think it's 3/4 in.)

Breezy and fori -- thanks for the suggestion of the pantry pull-outs. However, I don't mind opening 2 doors if I need to pull out the shelves -- knowing the way I am, I'd never be able to remember what was in which cabinet, so I'd end up having to open both every time, anyway.

Soemtimes pullouts work well but for a large pantry, a pullout is a royal pain. It's big and heavy for one thing...no matter how many ball bearings the thing is riding on. You then have to step to the side to see what you have and to locate something...that is because there are no individual doors to open so you gotta look around past the door...or step to the side and look. Then you have to try and get whatever you need out...nowhere as easy as with roll out shelves. A pullout pantry doesn't even work if it is a wide one. Try reaching what is in the middle. I don't think they even make entire pantry pullouts as wide as the one in the picture above for just that reason. It is really no big deal to have to open one or two doors and then roll a shelf out as it is so much easier to find, retrieve or put away things. We have an 18" pantry, single door, roll out shelves. We asked the KD about a pullout one and she nixed the idea right off the bat....heavy and a pain in the a**.

My suggestion for the OP is to put in fillers as wide as you need and don;t worry about the symmetry. Anything that would be slightly off would not really be all that noticeable.

Thanks, Johnny - I was thinking that a large pantry would be little unwieldy.

We have a 12" base pantry planned for the island, and I am starting to think even that might be too much. (I'm especially thinking about the difficulty of seeing what's in the middle.) I may switch that to a 9" pullout and give the extra 3" to roomier drawers for my cookware. (Don't be surprised if you see a "12 in base pantry too wide?" thread soon. :))

While I don't have a CD fridge, I have almost the exact layout as the OP. My pantry doors only open to 90 degrees (because my fridge ISN'T a CD) , but I have no problem pulling out any of the shelves. I have an extended stile on the left side of the cab to clear the frame of the doorway, but I don't have any filler on the right - only the side of the fridge cabinet. The handle to the pantry cab extends beyond the fridge cab side, so it isn't any problem.

pudgybaby, how wide is your pantry? It looks like it will hold a lot.

brenjun: my pantry is 42 inches wide and holds soooo much food. Being that wide, the doors are large, but we love it. My cabinet maker insisted that I use the blum metal drawers (as opposed to wood) because they are stronger for such a wide rollout. He also used heavy duty slides. We use one of the wide drawers for pots and pans (the range is just across the aisle from the pantry) and the bottom drawer for bagged food (chips, bagged pastas, etc).

And I think Johnny makes excellent points about rollout shelves vs a pullout pantry. I think the pullout style pantry is only practical for a fairly narrow pantry, although I've never used this type of pantry. Both styles have their pros and cons.

chihauhuagirl: The note pad is from mayfair lane and they have this foam back that 'sticks' to stainless without any adhesive, so there's no residue. You just press it on. If it loses it's stick, you just wipe it down with a a little water, and it sticks again. They work great for us. The website was sold recently, and I have not ordered after the sale. Hi! I have a wall quite similar to yours and am debating between two pantries on either side of the fridge or one pantry and the counter like yours. Do you mind me asking what size the wall is that houses the pantry, fridge and upper and lower cabinet? I love, love, love the pictures!! Thank you!

@krkadler -- The wall is about 102" long -- here's a close-up of the configuration there. Mind you, if I add a filler between the pantry and the refrigerator, I will probably shrink the drawer base and upper cabinet accordingly.

Here's mine, too, since I'm not sure if your measurements are closer to mine or the OPs. This drawing is very close, but not exactly the final version. I shifted one inch from the counter top area to the pantry, so my pantry is really 41.5 inches and the counter top area is 48.
