suzatwork: i have to say your floors have very much the same grain and variation in tone as my highly-coveted black walnut. they're stunning! i'm wondering how they take stain, since i'd like darker floors? my plan is to go with the walnut but i'll have to get some samples and check the amendoim out. i'll have to look it up, but also assuming this species would be harder than walnut... hmmm... GREAT! more for me to think about! thanks for posting your gorgeous floors.

Thanks Cabinetsbyalan! I guess that is why there is such a big difference in all the "natural" walnut I see online. We got an incredible deal on walnut timber that we had stacked ourselves and allowed to air dry for a few months then dryed in a solar kiln the rest of the way. It has now been planed and they are in the process of building my cabinets. Our cabinet maker said it is the most beautiful walnut he has ever had the pleasure of working with. It is very dark...he strongly suggests not staining it and just putting poly or clear coat or something over it. That sounds great but I don't want a few years from now for it to be too light. I can't find any before and after photos that show just how much lightening anyone is talking about....Is it barely noticeable or quite a bit lighter? Thanks for the help! I am on a farm with a very modest budget and the house is a ranch style house, so I am leaning more toward the traditional style.... but your kitchen sure is lovely:)

Hi Boxerpups, I really love the wood tone in that sixth photo down on your Monday post, the kitchen with the black (blue?) range and the French-door fridge. Do you know what that wood is? I would call it "golden natural cherry" if I were making up names, but would like to know what it's really called... it might look nice with my burgundy range and pale yellow sink... Thanks!

justgottobeme-Oh, that sounds like a good idea! So funny how we will do projects around the house for our pets! Well, in this case, I guess it is for your DH. :) But still...we just got a new dog at the Humane Society about 2 weeks ago...a 40 lb black lab mix. i ADORE her and she has been sleeping in bed with us...but after seeing the BLANKET of black hairs on the sheets, DH and I decided she MUST sleep on the dog bed on the floor, next to the bed. Hope your cats don't mind being shut out of your room...but at least they have each other! I know what you mean, I like a few different styles, too. Just want to make sure that a scrolly wall vent will match my 70s faux spanish ranch. Now, I can assure you...no one I know had a decorative wall vent when I was groing up in SoFla in the 70s. Just like crown molding...NO ONE had it. So, since I am trying to stay true to the era (within reason) I feel silly putting the decorative wall vent in. However...if someone KNEW about these things in the mid 70s, and had the option...they probably would have done it, too. I am figuring that a scrolly black design will look spanish, so I will be ok...I am staying true to the "spanish" part, if not to the 70s ranch part. Hope that makes sense! jill-Goodness, those pics are just SICK! Saw the one you mentioned...thing is, there is soooo much to look at , I could see where some people would think in *that* case it would be ok!
