water heater off if main water turned off?
Comments (5)if your doing work on your water lines...true, true,, there is water in the w/h tank, so there should be no need to turn off heater...BUT... it is a wise idea to turn it off... BECAUSE... you can, and 50 /50 chance will...cause a backsyphonage of the water and empty the tank, at least to the top element use electricty that you do not need to use [wasting] when working on a system..do not shortcut..turn the breaker off, like i said,,you don't have to..but..safety, safety, and conserve energy..you tell your kids to do these things so.....DO IT YOURSELF..its a good habit to get into...See MoreOK to leave on hot water heater, even if water is turned off?
Comments (3)swampwiz, The answer to your question is that the best thing to do would be to at least turn your gas water heater to "pilot". Here's why: It won't use any gas keeping the tank warm for three months while you are gone. The other reason is a little more esoteric... if your water is turned off at the supply, the water has no where to expand when it's heated unless you have an expansion tank. This can cause the pressure valve to open enough to reduce the pressure. Turn the water heater to pilot when you leave... it will only take about 30-40 minutes to heat when you get back home. For electric water heaters, I suggest shutting off the power if the water is off. If the water level gets below the top element it will burn out....See MoreIf main water supply valve is closed...
Comments (11)It is good practice to shut off the heat supply to the water heater if the water supply is off- especially if the heater is electric. There is more than one potential way that a non-pressurized heater can drain at least part of the water. If the heater element in an electric heater is powered when dry, it will burn out the element very quickly....See MoreDishwasher water supply line heating up and smoke is coming out
Comments (25)@Mei If it's an older unit, it's probably a better idea to replace it. New dishwashers aren't that expensive - vs the cost of an appliance repair person making a couple of trips (diagnose, then come back to install the part). Then all you have to do is make sure the new one is properly grounded. If you install the new one, make sure the ground wire is good (use your meter from hot to ground). Then make sure it's connected to the grounding wire/terminal on the new dishwasher....See Moreredwood39
