pvc bathtub drain kit connecting to abs drain

I am installing a 3-wall alcove acrylic Kohler bathtub on my second floor. I found that most of the Kohler bathtub drain kits are PVC but my drain is ABS. ABS drain kits seem to be very limited compared to PVC kits. Access to the bathtub drain is from below by cutting open the ground floor ceiling wall board. I am trying to connect ABS to ABS to avoid glue connection and possible code problems. After a little research, I am not clear about using banded couplers, such as Fernco to connect PVC to ABS pipes. No 12 by 12 access panel then a coupler is not allowed? And one more issue: On the overflow tube, there is usually a screw type compression ring to connect after cutting to length of the overflow tube(i am not sure if this is the right name for this),is this allowed or should this connection be glued?
