I don't know if the old thread is available, but I know that I love my kitchen very much. :D

Just a few months ago, I finished getting it restored back to the 1950s. Hopefully most of that post-1960s stuff is gone now. ;)

And yes, I painted all those dots by hand!

I love the 50's kitchen! Everyone is tearing out the old and putting in new "junk" cabinets etc. They may look pretty but compared to the way they used to make cabinets, they are just junk wood! I have the same type kitchen as you do pretty much only way smaller unfortunately! Gotta ask...how can you live without granite counters and stainless appliances...HAHAHA...JUST KIDDING!

Arkansas_Girl, I am not a fan of granite counters, and my last house had all new shiny fancy-dancy stainless steel appliances and I loathed them.

And you're right - these cabinets are very sturdy and well made.

I watch HGTV from time to time. Always wonder how soon those granite counters and stainless appliances will be out of style. The house shoppers will sigh deeply and say they must be removed. I personally think it won't be too long before hardwood kitchen floors will give way to tile again!

Rosemary, your kitchen looks so much like my old kitchen from the 1940's. My cabs were pretty much falling apart, though. My mom still has boomerang formica in her kitchen. That stuff is bullet proof.

I did get granite and stainless when I remodeled but I agree that they will be dated before long.

The refrigerator that is currently in our kitchen is one that I bought brand new in July 1971. It has needed to be serviced exactly once -- in 1991 -- when the motor running the fan in the freezer section needed to be replaced. I know that it's not at all energy efficient (so there's no need to point that fact out to me), but I love the size and interior layout of it. AND, it keeps milk at the perfect really, really cold temperature!

At any rate, the fridge was Harvest Gold when I bought it, and it remained that color until we moved into this house in the Fall of 1990. The color scheme in our kitchen is slate blue (think French blue) and white, so the Harvest Gold would have looked really awful. So, I had the thing re-enameled. I had the company pick the fridge up at our old house, and they delivered it back to us at the new house, so we didn't have to hassle moving it. (The old house is only about 6 miles from here, so we were doing it ourselves rather than hiring a moving company.)

Anyway, I gave them a teapot that is exactly the color that I wanted, and they matched it perfectly.

For years, I owned an appliance shop and I know that those older appliances are WORTH saving! I've got a friend with a Lady Kenmore dryer from 1964. And it still works well!

I love it that you had your refrigerator painted a custom color.

Personally, I've always had a thing for the 1950s colors, and turquoise makes my heart go pitter pat!
