Mucinex has saved my life more than once. I have (very controlled) asthma, and when I get a cold, it's important that I keep my lungs as clear as possible. The Mucinex helps keep things loose (drinks LOTS of water) and therefore doesn't trigger other problems.

I use the separate ingredients. Check the active ingredients in the DM formula, and buy them separately, and take as directed. Noting I hate more than combination medicatiosn!

I usually use the regular one in the blue bottle -- Costco sells it for less.

It was recommended to me by an HMO doctor when my asthma got bad almost two years ago and it has really helped with that.

Also, when I get a cold I take it and it seems to stave off the secondary sinus and ear infections I commonly got.

Robitussin expectorant cough syrup has the same active ingredient, but I like the 12-hour formula contained in Mucinex.

I have also taken the Mucinex cough formula that you got, with good results, and my cousin likes the one with decongestant when her allergies are acting up.

I was really sick about 4 months ago. I coughed so much and so hard and my lungs felt like they were on fire. For a few days I was too sick to drive myself to the doctor. After a few days I made it to the doctor. He gave me what he called a sinus cocktail and a prescription for some cough medicine. I felt better right away and it helped me get rid of some of the congestion. I took it for a week, then went back to the doctor to see if I could get a refill. He wouldn't give me a refill because it had hydrocodone in it. He recommended that I use MucinexDM. It worked as well as the prescription.

My mother had COPD and gets sick all the time with pneumonia. She swears that since she takes mucinex every day she hasn't had pneumonia in a year or more.

But make sure it is the DM. Here in Iowa you can only buy it from the pharmacist. I am not sure if the laws are that way in every state, but they won't sell anything with sudanephrine over the counter due to its ingredients. They can be used to make Meth.

I make sure I have a big package on hand - that way if someone gets sick, we have it. The pharmacy's aren't open in the evening or on weekends around here.

It is worth the $$.

I am a real believer in it too. One of my doctors told me that the drug I had been taking was now OTC Mucinex and to get it there. I can tell you that the minute I feel any congestion in my sinus cavity/inner ear...I take it and it prevents the problems that I had for many many years.

It's our favorite pharmacy product for the whole family. We always have it during the cold season in both adult and children's strength. Nothing works better. So far, we've noticed no side effects. It's amazing!

I get bronchial/allergy/asthma symptoms, known here is Houston as "the crud"! Five years ago, my treatment was antibiotics and a strong decongestant. When I got it again, I expected the same round of treatment, but my doctor told me to pick up Mucinex DM. (He stressed the DM part for me.) Now, the first words out of his mouth are "have you started on Mucinex yet?"

I agree with others that this stuff really does help in the prevention of sinus, lung and ear problems.

I can't take any cold meds, so when I feel a cold or sinus infection coming on, I take plain Robitussin, which is guarfenesin, which is the ingredient in Mucinex. That and aspirin are all I can use when I have a cold.

You have to be sure to drink lots of water with either product or it won't work.

My husband and I have very different experiences from all of you. We had bad coughs and started musinex, used it for two days and both of us got off of it because it made us feel just terrible - flue like. Within about 6 hours, we both felt much, much better.

Ruthie recommended it to me a few years back when I was sick and it really did help.
