Hi! I have a Cabrio HE, which is a high efficiency TLer with a wash plate. I got it a year ago and I love it. I originally got a FLer that was a 3.8 cf. My thick king size comforter did not fit well, so if you wanted a FLer I would suggest a 4.0 cf. I think the Cabrio HE is 4.5 cf. It washes really well, rises better than the FLer did, and does not cause vibration problems although it does have a high speed spin. Cloths take less time to dry just like with a FLer. And it holds a lot of cloths! I used to do 5 or 6 loads of laundry 3 times a week with my old TLer, plus 4 loads of towels and the beddings. Now I do 5 loads of laundry 2 times a week (or 7 loads of laundry one day a week if I'm being lazy) plus 2 loads of towels and the bedding. And whereas with my old TLer it took from 7 AM to 9 PM to do 6 loads of cloths and 2 loads of towels (those used to take at least 1 1/2 hours to dry) I can now do those same items between 2 PM and 10 PM (I just did that yesterday). You do have to use HE detergent, but you can use powder. They probably make the HE Tide powder, I don't know for sure though because I developed an allergy to Tide over ten years ago. I currently use All Free and Clear HE, it is easy to find and costs the same as the non HE version. Meijer, Target, and Wal-Mart are good places to shop for the HE detergents because they have good prices. I got my Cabrio HE at LoweÂs, and they were wonderful! This was actually the third machine I had, so they were out to my house three times. I personally like the Cabrio much better than the Flers I had, mainly because of the problem I had with the FLers not rinsing sufficiently (I have a lot of allergies and skin problems so detergent residue is a huge issue for me). I could have continued to use the FLer but to get as good a rinse as a single rinse in the Cabrio (or my old TLer) I had to use three rinses in the FLer which meant that loads took at least 1 1/2 hours to wash. I don't have that kind of time.

I did a little surfing on the net. Seems like the Whirlpool Cabrios didn't get the best reviews and you are apparently not the only one to have this problem. One review I read stated that small loads came out fine but that their Blankets and conforters didn't get clean either. It could be a low water pressure issue or a siphoning problem, but I do not know if the top loaders can have a siphoning problem like the front loaders can if the drainage isn't placed properly. I'm not sure where you bought it, but if you got a warranty on it I would definitely call and report the problem and make them fix it. I just bought a Whirlpool Affinity from best buy and got the additional 5 year coverage and they have a lemon policy which states that after three repairs, if there is still a problem with the washer, they will replace it with a brand new one. My Afffinity is a 3.5 cu. ft. and I have washed all of our comforters in it. They all came out clean, and when checkied during the cycle, they were thoroughly saturated with water.

We just realized we need a right hinged door. My current 12 y.o. Maytag Neptune is right hinged and I didnÂt realize until now that it is not common. So, we are now looking at the Electrolux Wave Touch. A lot more money but it will definitely be able to wash my comforter! We are looking at the Wave-Touch instead of the IQ because having steam in the dryer is important to me. We are also looking at the Turquoise Sky color  very different from the silver blue of the Samsung!

What one must first decide is how one sleeps. Is the room warm or cold? By warm, I mean is it pretty much the same temp daytime and night or is the heat turned down or off at night? Most people in the US sleep in very warm rooms - often 70°. If so, a huge, heavy comforter that goes all the way down, would be stifling at night. I sleep in a very cold room - if I can get it into the 50's, I'm very happy. In the summer, I aim for 66-68 - hard to get it much more than 25° colder than the outside temp and it's hot at night where I live. What works very well for me is to have a larger top sheet on my Queen size bed. I buy my sheets in the UK as they come wider and longer there - very easy. If there is a good drop on both sides and a good fold-back at the top, I'm happy. I don't like heavy (weight, not warmth) covers. I discovered that other than when we lived in ME in the winter, a down comforter was just too hot at night. So, I use a down BLANKET. I think I got mine at Target. I did get a King for my Queen bed, and I use it side-ways - the satin binding is on the sides, not the top/bottom. On top of that, I use a very lightweight quilt - the French call them a boutis. This keeps me very warm unless the outside temp is in the single digits. If so, I put a mohair throw crossways over the top of the bed - it's my shoulders and the trunk of my body that get cold, not my legs. I always use a dust ruffle on a bed. I like the look and one can store things under the bed without it looking terrible. I prefer a custom made one, but there are some decent readymade ones out there but they are not cheap. Investing in good bedding is worth the expense. We spend a LOT of time in our bed and if we don't sleep well, the next day does not go well at all. When I say "good bedding", I'm not talking about sheets such as Porthault or Pratesi that are priced in the stratosphere! But better than what is typically available. It's one reason I buy my sheets in the UK - excellent quality, lovely details, and affordable. I have 3 sets of sheets/cases for my bed, so I rotate and don't wash them to death. I have sheets that are 15 years old and still in excellent condition. I replenish a sheet at a time. I prefer a white top sheet, one set of white cases (I use french back shams only), and a small patterned bottom sheet with a 2nd set of cases that are the same or that add a little touch of color. My quilt is a toile and goes with the rest of the room.
