Don't worry about changing my mind (again). The fabricator and the GC both told me that the siligranit will chip/scratch over time and that it will be a whole lot more difficult to replace these sinks if needed than if I needed to replace a stainless sink. Of course, I realize that stainless will scratch too so I am not that naive. I just think the stainless will work better for my kitchen overall since I have stainless appliances. And I don't want to hear any "I told you so's" from the GC, the fabricator or my DH for that matter !!!! :) FYI - even one of the sink supply stores talked me out of the siligranit sinks telling me he's had numerous complaints. And he did sell them ! But who knows - I think you have to go by your personal taste and feelings about the whole thing. I am ready to go buy the C-TEC stainless (16 gauge) sink unless someone can give me some good reasons not to ! Really appreciate this forum's input ! Thanks in advance !

In my business, the cabinet installer sets the farm sink or apron front sink. Then the quartz or granite (or whatever) tops are templated with the sink in place by the countertop fabrication company. Two weeks later, they set the tops....then I send out the plumber for the hookup.

Thank you all so much! I am relieved to know the streaks will go away in time if I cannot get them out. Having granite installed, and getting an under mount sink is all new to me. The 2nd installer (long story, but all resolved now), did say to wipe the sink with warm soapy water after he wiped it down with the acetone. I know it was acetone, because I watched him do it, and the can said Acetone on it. No mistaking that smell either! When the soapy cloth didn't work, I thought the sink was damaged. I contacted the sink manufacturer yesterday. It took them a day to answer, and they in fact recommended Bar Keepers Friend (the liquid one). I read through the advice here often, and have learned so much. Thank you all for responding.

Mj, I am THRILLED we got the ledge! We use it constantly. The sink pictured about is our clean-up sink. The main sink actually has a double ledge - 18" wide for the top one, 17" wide for the lower one. They're 3/4" deep. Our main sink is 46" long, single bowl. Rather than a drainboard, we use the flexible metal & silicone rack thing below. I find it's just as useful, but more flexible since it isn't built in. I bought a strainer bowl and some regular mixing bowls that have the same diameter, and then cut out holes in the white cutting board so that the bowls drop in. This board slides along the lower track so you can chop on the upper board and then sweep into the lower bowl. Or put veggies in the bowl to rinse, then grab from them to chop. There's enough room to put a half sheet pan on the other side of the cutting board, too. Here it is in use for Christmas cookies. We just used the cutting boards to extend the counter space. And with a few cutting boards on top, we used it for setting up Thanksgiving dishes. I could have thrown a cloth over it to make it look fancier, but forgot. In summary: 10/10, A+++, would get again!
