Wow Claire, that looks excellent! I am famous around here for breaking all normal super sturdy garlic presses. For some reason I have super hand strength when it comes to using a garlic press and have actually broken all of them.. snap, the handle breaks. I'm excited.

It is out of stock on Amazon now too. LOL.. you must have started a run on them. Smiles. Merry Christmas.

Well, I have the world's best garlic mincer, it's a two part gadget. Elery and a knife, LOL, and it works for me, but I think it may be out of stock now, I have the only one probably. (grin)

That is a nifty little gadget, though, and it's a darned good thing it's out of stock because I do not need one. I don't. It would get stuffed into my gadget drawer and I'd never find it again. Yeah, that's what would happen. I don't need one....

Peppi I am so sorry about your RA. I know its been hard for you lately. Pain sucks, I get real snappy at people and then I feel bad.

I wonder if it is better than the microplane. I've never found a better or easier method to grate garlic than the microplane. But that is such a cute little gadget I would be willing to give it a try.

What a nifty tool ! My garlic press is impossible to clean and I find the microplane juices it too much....perhaps operator error but neither works for me so I usually hand mince.

Papanda, I think the price quoted is in Pounds which is the currency of the UK. The symbol for pounds looks an "L" with a "squiggle" through it. Perhaps you mistook that for Lira?

If it is pounds then it is equal to about $23.00 American.

I've tried the microplane method, and while I like the ease and the results, I can't use the whole clove because I'm holding it and my fingers would be injured. Do you have this problem too? I've seen microplans with little boxes on them for holding small things - but that somehow feels like it would be more work. I've not used the garlic press talked about here, and it does look very enticing, but I've been very happy with the Kuhn Rikon Garlic Press - it's very easy to clean.

No, I don't use a microplane either, unless I'm willing to sacrifice part of the garlic in order to save my fingers. Since I'm attached to my fingers, I'd rather keep them whole.

Jeri, I have a Kuhn Rikon Garlic Press. Like Peppi, I have arthritis in my fingers/hands (although mine isn't RA). Either way, it's painful, and that one simply doesn't work for me. Not to mention It's kind of a *itch to clean. Trust Me Peppi, YOU WANT THIS! Think about how much easier it is to use arm strength to mash down on a garlic clove and then rock it. No fingers or hand involved really. It's fast too.

He bought mine for $15 at a Cooking shop in KC, so the price is definitely right. Chase, that's probably right once you add on shipping, if you can't find it in a fancy kitchen shop locally.

Sometimes garlic paste is preferable (which is when the Microplane is a great tool), but usually, I want minced garlic. Separate, little pieces I can brown in a pan. (Sometimes you just want what you want!)

Ann, is it better? Yes, after trying it twice(yes Jessy, it's Great), I would say SO! It's very safe, and I daresay faster. Cathy, you want one of these too!

Annie, I have a sort of ''Elery'' myself, although he knows when things can get easier. He saw this and knew instantly it would work for me (and him, especially on the cleaning side). He's quite proud of himself this morning, for helping to start a forum run on an awesome new cooking gadget.

Your DH is definitely a keeper. I love this! It is beautiful as well as simple and functional, including that it is stainless steel instead of plastic or aluminum. Love, love, love it!

FYI, I found three sites that did not indicate being out of stock at this time. I know nothing about these sites, have not done business with any of them, and I didn't check out the s&h fees. I just went in there and minced some more garlic. I can't believe how fast this picks it up, leaving nothing behind. I left half the garlic for him to do, since I shouldn't have ALL the fun!

You know this (ultimate garlic mincer) reminds me of a business I once thought of because of all the upgrading I do. Of course this was before on-line pricing and on-line reviews. Anyway I though I would buy a lot of different kitchen appliances and gadgets, rent them for a fraction of the actual cost, clients would have a week for hands-on-testing. Then they could buy the item they rented or return it and buy a new "whatever" at the best price I found for them.

This would be perfect for the CF member who asks about "should I get a toaster oven?".

They are back in stock at Amazon. I just ordered one from them. Wish I had checked yesterday because I ordered an embroidery machine from them and could have had the Rocker sent on the same order for 0 shipping. Oh well, its worth it.

But you do have to peel it first, unlike garlic presses, right?

I don't know if you have to peel it first, but then I always peel my garlic. (I figure it's simply easier in the long run.)

I did buy a microplane with the little box on it but guess what, you STILL have a little piece left at the end! I gave it away!

My current bent is to just crush the darn clove and chop with a knife. No, it's not as fine and perfect as the microplane or as this ultra cool gadget would produce. But I've already got the knife in my hand and it's just a few extra cuts. And you know, it comes out good enough for my purposes.

By the way, I gave up on garlic presses long ago. I never could get one to come out clean.

I am definitely intrigued by this gadget and WOULD get one but I am going to be strong and keep doing it manually. I don't need any more stuff in my drawers! LOL

Test report: I LOVE IT! Trimmed the ends of the cloves and gave each a partial smash, then the skin came off easily. On a couple of them, it was easy to remove a green center. Then another smash and a rock. Can't describe it, but I did use a firm pressure, which I'll call a smash. The rocking action is what really works. The coarser skin stays on the back of the rocker, and you've got a lovely bunch of garlic ready for the pot. Clean up perfectly without a second thought.

Cool! (May, you may just want to rethink this one, but then if you don't have finger/hand pain and don't mind using a knife, it's not a big deal. Until you have to mince a LOT of garlic. This is one gadget that truly doesn't take up a lot of space, and worthy of the real estate. But then, that's only my (and Sushipup's) opinion at the moment! Sushipup, You're Very Welcome. I liked your description of having a lovely bunch of garlic for the pot. Indeed!

I can't wait to hear from some others, once you get a chance to try it.
