Need help with ingrown toe nail
Comments (33)I couldn't even begin to let someone do a pedicure on me when I had my ingrowns. The pain was intense and throbbing. In one case, I actually had a red line that ran from my toe to the middle of my calf. It was that infected and did I mention it hurt? Yikes. The pain was so severe that the doctor gave me 11 (eleven) shots of Novacaine, and Zylocaine and neither of them worked. Eleven! After over two hour trying to numb and fix the toe, the dr. said it was after hours and he had somewhere to be. I could go home and come back the next day or have him remove it without anesthesia. I chose to have him cut it out. I held on the nurse so tight while the procedure was being done that she probably still has fingernail marks on her arm. They had to ask my DH to leave the room because he was feeling faint. LOL Men, whadda they know of pain? :-) Jodi-...See MoreNail Clippers for Cats
Comments (8)We rarely trim the back claws. They don't seem to grow at the rate the front ones do, nor are they as sharp. My 7 year old cat doesn't like her paws touched and submits, but lets you know that you are really irritating her. The two 5 month olds have no problem with the process at all. I touch, caress, and massage their paws every time I hold them since I read somewhere that they will be less likely to be skittish when clipping nails if you do this. And we use just a human nail clipper turned sideways, but I'm thinking about getting one like the picture posted....See MoreWhat do you use to trim nails?
Comments (4)I use clippers that look like the attached link. I used to use people clippers but these work so much better for me. I don't get the splitting I used to because they are really sharp and wrap around the nail. I found them easier to use because I can see for sure how much nail I'm trimming off. The downside is that my cats recognize them and they run if they see me taking them out - lol Here is a link that might be useful: nothing fancy but they work!...See MoreCat's infected ingrown claw
Comments (13)I have four polydactyls. I know exactly what you're talking about. That little, recessed claw tucked down between the primary and secondary pads can be a real pain, both for them and for me. Not only will it not extend so that I can reach it easily with my clipper, but it also seems to be much more sensitive to touch than the other claws. This makes my polys extremely uncooperative when I try to get those little hidden daggers clipped. And spedigrees is right. Because the hidden claws don't come into contact with the ground, they don't wear down, and they can quickly grow and circle back into the pad. Like I said, they're a pain. It sounds like your handsome boy may have a bone infection from the ingrown claw. I would think that a normal soft tissue infection would have resolved by now, unless it's caused by a drug-resistant bacteria. Hopefully the vet will be able to find an antibiotic that will effectively kill the pathogen. Has the wound been swabbed and cultured to identify exactly which pathogen is present?
