Closet-style pantry question and a progress pic!

Hi all! 'Tis been awhile - we've been hard at work! We are just about all drywalled and our lighting is in. We will be tearing out the remainder of our old kitchen this weekend and moving the sink/stove/fridge into their new home, on the other side of the room! (former dining room side)

Anyways, onto my question:

I have a 2 foot by 2 foot floor to ceiling pantry roughed into our kitchen design. It is on the end of one leg of our L-style design, and made out of drywall.

My question is, what can I do to maximize the space at the top and bottom of the pantry? I will have adjustable shelves in the middle area. But there is an awful lot of wasted space at the top/ceiling area. And, the bottom may be hard to access, so I am wondering what to do there? Also, I would like ideas for storage that I can put on the inside of the door. My shelving will be 16 inches deep, so there will be room for something on the inside of the door.

Any ideas? Thanks all, I couldn't have gotten this far without you all!
