May I borrow $25?

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'

DAD: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.

SON: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily.

SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour.'

SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?'

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.'

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.....

'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.

'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $25 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

I know my little grandniece would love for her parents to spend more time with her......and her dad doesn't even work,

Great minds think alike, Jasdip! It's a holiday weekend in the States, so I'm thinking I may make this. Either one would be great for cookouts since no mayo is involved. FRENCH POTATO SALAD (Best of Bridge) 2 lbs. small red new potatoes 5 strips bacon, cooked crisp and chopped 3 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh dill or 2 tsp. dried 4 green onions, chopped 1/3 Cup finely chopped red onion Dressing: 1/3 c. red wine vinegar 3/4 c. olive oil 2 tsp. Dijon mustard 1 garlic clove, minced freshly ground black pepper Boil potatoes until just tender. Drain and cut into chunks. Place in salad bowl with remaining salad ingredients. Combing dressing ingredients, mix well and toss with warm potatoes. Add freshly ground pepper. Salad should marinate in dressing for several hours in refrigerator. It is important.

It's so hard selecting a recipe from my blog to post here. I've made almost 1000 recipes over the years and there are so many that stand out. This is a great one if you want to do something a bit different for a cookout this weekend. I've made these pork chops on the grill outside and also on contact grills. You could probably broil them and get great results too. The key to this recipe is a good balsamic vinegar - not expensive but good. I use a store brand. There are many brands that I don't care for at all. Easy Italian Spiced Pork 1 package (.6 oz) Italian dressing mix Â¼ cup balsamic vinegar Â½ teaspoon Italian seasoning Â¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil or canola oil 4 boneless pork loin chops, Â¾ inch thick Paprika (I forgot this0 1. In a small bowl, beat dressing mix, vinegar, Italian seasoning and red pepper with wire whisk until mix is dissolved. Beat in oil until well blended. 2. In a shallow glass baking dish, arrange pork chops in a single layer. Spread oil mixture over both sides of pork. Let stand at room temperature 15 minutes to marinate. (I marinaded these all day long.) 3. Meanwhile, heat gas or charcoal grill. 4. When grill is heated, remove pork from marinade; discard marinade. Place pork on gas grill over medium-high heat or on charcoal grill over medium-high coals. Sprinkle pork with paprika. (I forgot the paprika and I didn't miss it.) Cook uncovered 4 minutes. Turn pork; sprinkle with paprika. Cook uncovered 3 to 6 minutes longer or until slightly pink in center and thermometer inserted into center of pork reads 160 degrees. 4 servings.

Balsamic Pork Tenderloin (recipe.com) 1 pork tenderloin, about 1 lb 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 tablespoon snipped fresh rosemary 2 cloves garlic, minced 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/8 teaspoon salt Balsamic Glaze 1. Place tenderloin in large resealable plastic bag set in a shallow dish. In a small bowl, combine balsamic vinegar, oil, rosemary, garlic, pepper, and salt. Pour over tenderloin. Seal bag; turn to coat tenderloin. Marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour. 2. Remove from marinade, discarding marinade. Prepare grill for indirect grilling. Test for medium heat above drip pan. Place tenderloin on grill rack over drip pan. Cover and grill about 40 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the tenderloin registers 155 degrees F. 3. Brush tenderloin on all sides with Balsamic Glaze. Grill for 1 minute more. Remove from grill. Cover with foil and let stand for 15 minutes (the meat's temperature will rise 5 degrees F during standing time). Slice to serve. Makes 6 servings. Balsamic Glaze In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar to boiling. Reduce heat; boil gently for 5 minutes. Makes about 1/4 cup.

That is easier said than done in this work climate. They came around last week in my daughter's department (Payroll Dept.) to see who was old enough to retire. Several years ago they laid off three women who were never replaced and my daughter was busier with additional work. Her boss now told her if people were laid off she would have to take on more work. She said that was ok, as long as she still had a job. She is a single mother with one in college and one in high school.

There is something like this called Butterfly Kisses. I should look it up for all of you.

Yes, Mary, all my kids work long hours and long weeks. My middle one free lances, so it is feast or famine. I remember all the lay offs of the late '80s and early '90s. It seemed like people then were asked to pick up the slack of the smaller workforce and they never really got any relief from it. Today's career worker seems to put in so many more hours than my generation did. And they are a mere Blackberry email or call away 24/7.

Mary, are you trying to pick a fight with Glenda? She shared what most of us think is a much needed reminder. No, of course she wouldn't let her children go hungry or shoeless. It was just a reminder that as important as jobs are our family has to be able to share our lives as well. Make time for what's important.

Maybe yes. It is a nice story and I can appreciate the lesson given. It is just frustrating because in this day and age companies have a very different attitude than years previously. When someone comes into the department and says "who's old enough to retire" and "you'll have to take on more work," you know if you don't, you will be out of a job as the manager has been told to get rid of x number of people.

No child support!
I know what it is like!

Regardless if anyone is a single parent or not, it is always good to remind all of us that our children need that special hug, time or attention--even if it a bit or piece every day. And yes it is tough to assume additional work even to keep a job without that extra money but we cannot judge a person even if we have walked in their footprints. We do not know all the circumsences. Yes that job is important to all of us whether we work or not. Too many SAH moms do not qive quality time to the family as working moms because the get occupied with other things--like home, cleaning, cooking, and even volunteering. It is amazing how many volunteers "ignore" the family, but get all sorts of rewards from that school or chuch they Must serve. Yes I have seen it happen too many times.

May I borrow $25?
