Help with spicing up my patio door with drapery

This is my sunroom. I have Looped Roman Shades (brown damask pattern) on the larger window. The verticals are a very light cream. I feel like with the chairs (which are dark brown and a teal) and the roman shades that the verticals are sore eye look for the room. What suggestions do you have? I was thinking maybe stationary panels on each side with a short, thick 2" rod. Maybe a valence and drapes? I'm just not sure and very unsure of a color that I could use. would cream panels stick out too much? Thanks!!!

This thread will describe how to post pictures from a photohosting site, from a PDF file, or from some other location on the web.
First, though, where are your pictures? If they are on your computer only, you will need to upload them to somewhere on the web for the rest of us to see them. I upload pictures to PhotoBucket, but there are other photo-hosting sites available. For example: Picasa, Filckr, Webshots, Snapfish.

Open an account w/PhotoBucket or other photo hosting site.

Take a picture using a digital camera (or film camera, but get your pictures on a disk when they're developed & download them to your computer)

Resize your pictures so they're not too big, generally no more than 400x300 (or 300x400)
Resize keeping the same proportions so they don't get distorted...i.e., don't specify a specific size, use %-ages or similar

[You can also often resize pictures at your photohosting site, but it's faster to do it on your computer]

Upload your pictures to your photo account

Find the label that contains the HTML Code link to the picture and copy it

Paste it into the thread's "Message" box ()

Click the "Preview" button.

You will now see the picture.

You could paint the island a different color than the rest of your cabinetry to make it pop. You could install bead board to the back or run simple simple moldings from top to bottom to create a paneled effect. You could extend the counter top out behind it and support the overhang with nice chunky furniture legs... maybe even build some shelves between them. You could buy one of those plaster stencils and plaster some kind of large decal on the back and then paint it to look like the stone in your back splash. Or any combination of these :) there are many possibilities! Find a new island that you think would look awesome in your kitchen, and then try to recreate the features about it that you love.

Amy, wow! LOL OH I absolutely love the deviled eggs with the gherkins, lol. Did you add the gherkins on the tops? DH thinks its so funny that I do that, but anyone that tries those, loves them, LOL! I have more of those seasonings if you would like or need more, I keep those on hand until I run out and then will make more. (usually only twice a year, around the time I harvest and dehydrate my peppers) The chocolate habanero salt sounds incredible on your scalloped potatoes! YUM ...My favorite is the cajun ghost, I use that with all kinds of things.... burgars, meatloaf, soups, olive oil dipping & dressings, fries, baked potatoes, potato salad, shrimp, pork chops, beef kabobs, steak tips, even toss a pinch of it on top salads... the list is endless.... The kodiak spice rub is DH's go too for salmon. I dont care for Salmon but he loves it! We do lots of tailgating and bbq's ...so that 'seasoning' is sorta one of my specialtys. Can you tell I enjoy cooking ....LOL So happy to hear you enjoyed those! =) heres a few others too....Let me know if you need more! LOL

This sounds to me like 4 separate jobs Remove and dispose of existing door, insulate and sheath opening $150 Install new door and lockset $250 Install new exterior trim and siding, cutting back existing to weave in matching product $300 Install drywall, tape, 3 coats of mud, prime and finish coat entire wall with matching paint $300 In each case, you would have a difficult time finding someone to do a high quality job for the amount shown, so a package deal at $1,000 is not high. Especially because now you don't have anyone pointing fingers at the other guys to justify questionable results. You have only one person responsible for making it appear that door opening has not been altered. Now, yes, this could be a DIY job but you probably need to spend some money on proper tools. Some people use the cost of hiring out the job to justify the price of additional or upgraded tools (like me!). You probably don't have the six foot level and may need to buy or upgrade a miter saw for the trim work.

I would be careful about the three-pane patio door you are considering. If the panes are too narrow (meaning if you are intending to decrease the size of the individual panes that you currently have, in favor of adding a third pane) the divide can end up looking like prison bars that block a lot of the incoming liight and obstruct your view due to added trim around the individual panes. Also, consider how you will dress the wider door for light control and privacy--patio doors are often a challenge. Your current patio door doesn't line up at the top with the window above the sink, and the window in the adjacent living room? Maybe a taller patio door would work better than wider patio doors? If you have two-lite windows in the adjoining room I would keep it consistant, both in color and number of lites..

I had home depot put up wood blinds at the patio. They were build like door over the patio door. they were expensive $1.000 but well worth it. I have had them for going on 8 years and still love them. It really makes the room classy.
