Dried beans question

I bought a bag of dried Great Northerns and a bag of dried Navy.

I put the dried Great Northers in some salted water to soak (can't find the ATK instructions exactly but remember a show where they basically brined the dried beans or something).

So almost as soon as the beans hit the water the seams of the beans all crinkle up and and a lot of skins look pretty ragged.

I'm not sure these will go through a cooking process for 2, 3 hours without totally separating.

Should I start over? Get a different brand?

I tried dried beans once before and they never softened. I was happy enough with the glass jarred ones but sigh I do want to limit exposure to extra chemicals a little bit (its not the money) and make sure I have the best shot of getting nutrition out of the food.

I also wonder - where do these beans get grown? I checked the package and they are "packed and distributed" in KY but no mention of where grown. Do any beans come from overseas?
